Milwaukee Regional today, updates as mood permits.

It's not about the acrylic or any of the prizes. It's about the work, effort, and skill it took someone to get to the Top 16 cut, only to get a DQ for a controversial call that many believe (and with good reason and facts to back it up) was wrong.

You might wanna read a little closer to re-evaluate which side of that "controversy" you think I'm weighing in on.

My apologies. Your post was full of rage, making it difficult to see what side you were on (if any).

**** like this is ******* killing X-Wing.

Two years ago, even a year ago, something like this wouldn't have even been a blip on anyone's radar. It would've been, "Oh, I see. Yeah, just add Mangler Cannon to the list."

I just can't wait for the first X-Wing controversy about big heads and shrunken testicles. Anything to win some acrylic. At the rate the feel of competition is changing in the game, I'm figuring this will be just before Wave 11.

Right? Fixing the list seems like the easiest way to solve the problem while pissing off as few people as possible. They could have also at least let the game in progress finish as well before going to a decision.

A lot of people seem to forget that the situation would never had occured if the player had shown due diligence in typing out his list.

At a Regional event it is on the players to make sure their list and cards match up.

"That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry."

But, in all seriousness, I'm rarely less angry than when I'm cussing. Cussing denotes annoyance shading into despair. A quiet 300-pound 6'5" head-cocked stare denotes angry.

I just read all the posts about this DQ(or round loss) deal and my first thought was "What did his current opponent say?" I have played in many tournaments for many different games and I have been in similar situations. I personally would have asked the young man to finish the game with the lists we started with. If I lost and the TO wanted to give him a round loss I would forfeit so he moves on. I am a very competitive person but at the same time I want everyone involved to have a good time. This was a simple honest mistake that could have been handled between the players. If he misrepresented his list that's a different story but I does not appear to be the case. I know judging large events are hard as I was a judge at gencon for other games. I always tried to let the players have a say in the ruling if it came down to a judgment call.

His opponent was Anthony. While I wasn't there, what I understand from him is that the TO stopped the game, checked upgrades, and gave a match loss. Anthony (who doesn't read this forum) took that as the way is was going to be. He didn't fight to have his opponent DQed, it wasn't his choice.

It was not the DQed players opponent who made the call. He wasn't really given a choice.

Hmm. Same shop that wouldn't let me get a refund on my Regionals registration last year several months before the actual event.

I wasn't talking about him, FWIW. I was talking about the competition aspect of the game, in general, changing things. (And IMO not for the better.)

Eh, that's actually pretty common in my experience. Most event registrations aren't refundable.

Several months in advance? That's just someone being stubborn and lazy. I understand why you would make your registration costs non-refundable after a certain deadline (prize support, occupancy limits, ordering food) but especially for an event like Regionals where you're basically guaranteed to sell out it is more indicative of the type of people you're working with being... difficult.

There will be an FAQ on this... guaranteed.

Food for thought. Most of the crew that TOed wisconsin travels heavily. There's been a cheating epidemic in x wing for sometime that culminated at gencon this year. Most of the crew was there, most of them were at tournaments throughout the past 12 months where really questionable or outright dishonest play occured. That sort of stuff and the total lack of consequences sets a lasting impression on people. I guarantee you that was in the back of everyones mind during the event. I would 100% rather see no leniance than have the integrity of the results come into question.

I disagree as long as the store is notified ahead of time the refund should be issued. Now if you just don't show up to the event the day of or cancel at last might the night before I wouldn't expect any kind of refund.

I'm not debating that stores should offer refunds. I only intend to make it known that stores typically do not offer refunds. Specifically to dismiss the notion that BGB in particular is unaccommodating. They're not doing anything different than what I've seen from most stores.

If you are aware at the time of purchase that it is not refundable, you cant rreally blame the venure for enforcing it.

Cheating epidemic? Could someone bring me up to speed please (link or something brief)

Agreed. What's the deal?

I've heard more about how peoples Regional Dice have been disappearing occasionally... Based on that, I'm keeping mine on my person whenever I go to a tournament in the future. Can't risk my new precious(es?)...!

'Course I live in Sweden, so don't really know about what's going on overseas... Did hear from a friend how a IG88 player seemed to be fumbling his shields during their game, though that was some time ago. I guess moral of the story is to know the rules and be vigilant (but courteous).

I don't think there's any validity to a cheating epidemic as we are on top of the competitive scene and there's zero discussion on the topic.
