What beats 4 TLT Y-Wings...

By Clutterbuck, in X-Wing

Somebody said "a Ghost" could beat quad TLT. Isnt that quite a bit optimistic?

The Ghost has got 16 hp and it will probably lose half of it in the very first engagement. If you dont kill a y wing in the first round, the ghost dies in round 2 of the fight.

It will, but you can have two of them and a smaller third ship while having them reasonably kitted. TLT Y-Wings won't stand up long against 4 dice FCS backed primaries.

Just thought of this, and I'm sure you guys already know, and FGD will give the specifics on the good and bad; but....it seems Y-Wing TLTs like to stay somewhat together so that ships cannot get inside their range 1 and outside their primary without having another Y to be beside or behind to take that shot. So, breaking them up is a great step 1.....what about slamming in a bomb to take their formation out quick and maybe one of them to boot?

This pic shows a K-Wing that is far better looking than the stock one made by FFG....not an esthetic favorite of mine the K; either love 'em or hate 'em I guess.

Better looking how? The model looks pretty much exactly the same to me (with slightly different paint scheme, and this one is a bit more blocky). The main difference is the flare; plastic doesn't have engine flare.

Turn 2 - kill another TLT

Turn 3 - cripple a 3rd TLT, lose ghost 1.

Turn 4 - kill TLT.

Turn 5-6 - kill final TLT.

This 10 minute game brought to you by twin lothal rebels and a 3rd ship, more HP than you have damage cards.

Of course this is all a theory. I've never played with TLTs or Ghosts and thus have never played this matchup.

Acewing 4 life. (Also, Shadow caster... love it).

A lot of it, as noted, is getting that early kill. Since you often see Scum TLT y-wings (which trade PS for upping the R2 astromech to the unhinged astromech), anything but PS1 can do the job.

Generic scum y-wings have the same PS as generic rebel y-wings.

Super Easy and fun 5x green A-wings with AutoThrusters.

Its often not that easy to kill 1 ywing first engagement for a lot of lists. 8 health and 1 green means you need to be able to put down 9 to 10 hits straight up. A lot of lists don't have that many shots let alone them all hitting. Considering the average 3 ship build probably has

9 total red dice thats a lot of ifs to kill 1 ywing before it fires

its easy you can beat them with 5 tlt's and bombs :)

My friend used to use them against me all the time. the easiest way to beat them is with ships that have autothrusters - I recommend

Fel - autothrusters, PTL, stealth device

Jax - autothrusters, PTL, stealth device

the y-wings have a range one donut hole - if you can get inside it they can not shoot back at you - it will be very unfun for the y-wings to play against.

...and is enjoyable to play.

Here's the background. My main opponents don't care much about the game. They want to play something easy and effective, so they use 4 TLT Y-wings. What is a list that doesn't just eat it against the Y-Wings and is also fun to play?

new M9-G8 droid really hurts a single TLT. And sometimes that's all you need.

Tie/D title with tractor Beam. Preferably on Vessery. First shot reduces agility, 2nd shot does all the damage, and you have a target lock for re-rolls.

I just beat a 4 TLT list tonight in a store tournament flying Vessery like you recommended along with PTL Ryad and a Delta Tie-D, both of them with X7 title.

I've killed TLT spam with a lot of x7 titles. Three agility alone means that your double three attack dice shot isn't going to guarantee a two damage per turn out come. TLT's are good IMO because very few ships are can take a lot of hits and reliably avoid damage. Enter the TIE Defender.

I'd like to think that the real question is "How few points will beat a 4 TLT list?"

I think the lowest you can go is 26 points for a Saber Squadron Interceptor with PTL + Autothrusters. However, for the pure shenanigans I'd go with:

Jake Farrel (30)

Push The Limit

Outmaneuver

Autothrusters

Chaardan Refit

They key against 4 TLTs is to move into range 1 as soon as possible and stay there for as long as possible. Any AGI 3 ship with autothrusters and PTL can pretty much shrug off two TLTs each turn without too much worry. Also, the other 70 points of your list could be ion-tactician B-wings, if you really want:

Jake Farrel (30)

Push The Limit

Outmaneuver

Autothrusters

Chaardan Refit

2 x Dagger Squadron Pilots (34)

Sensor Jammer

Ion Cannon

Tactician

B-Wing/E2

Total: 98 points.

The B-wings completely shut down anything with 1 agility, and are highly effective against AGI 2 targets. Combine Ion+Tectician for a ship that is effecticely removed from the rest of the game. Sensor Jammer makes the AGI 1 B-wings (which are normally squishy to TLTs) far, far harder to kill. Take advantage of Ionised ships to slip Jake in behind and shake things up.
