Back in the day 4 or even 5 zs were a great escort. Now not so much. I never see it. Are they simply out of the meta?
Z mini swarm
Should still be good with TFA Chewie.
Edit: Just quickly thrown together...

If they focus down Chewie, they burn all their tokens and the Bandits can peck away. If they take out the Bandits, Chewie gets extra shots AND strips tokens. Should be fun.
Edited by pickirk01I have a Z that is literally the bane of phantoms and interceptors...he doesn't die......ever
Z mini swarms are viable in the hands of a competent player
I flew 5 Zs and a protectorate at worlds to 3-3, and my friend flew 4 Zs and Bossk to 5-1. I'm not sure that rebel Zs have much place outside of filler, but Scum Zs are very cheap Feedback Array and Black Market Slicer Tools carriers.
I'm gradually reverting to my Poe + Zs from before the dark times. I love the swarm, soon with some nice TIEs mixed in.
And yes, there is always a generic Z or A who earns the call sign "Clutch."
Rebel Z-95's are fairly useless in today's meta, if only for the fact that two red dice with a single modifier are not worth throwing at anything a tournament player is flying. Its the same reason you don't see academy pilots en masse anymore, you need more help to punch through.
That being said, 2 red dice at range 3 through a rock that roll hit crit or better will never miss. I don't care if you are Turtle Fel, Whisper, Poe, doesn't matter. That shot will be the last of a few at you, you will be missing your tokens, and your green dice will fail.
Every. Single. Time.
I've used Zs to drive some good Imp players to the edge on occasion. Not enough fire power to do much damage but clogging decloaking lanes, blocking k turns and denying actions brings a smile to my face even if I lose the game. Forcing Interceptors to shoot from R3 where even the lowly Z gets an extra green is kind of rewarding.
