You know what would be cool ... ?

By Mikael Hasselstein, in Star Wars: Armada

Here's a thread for off the wall ideas that don't quite fit into suggestions for standard expansions. It would have been a great topic to suggest that they put out a campaign. But, of course, they've done that.

But what else is off the wall, which would be cool, in your opinion?

Mine for right now is an expansion with landing craft - the ships that drop troops and walkers down on planets. They would not be worth many points, or be combat viable, but might come with objective cards that override the normal objective cards. Points for all landing craft that fly off the opponent's side of the table, or for your opponent if they destroy those ships.

I think that would be cool anyway.

Can you mount 2 AT-ATs under a Gozanti?

I think it would be a good idea to develop scenarios to land transports on planets. You could do this as major assault missions to land many assault shuttles, transports and planetary landing craft.

Alternatively you could have a Rebel fleet trying to keep the Empire ships busy while one secretly chosen ship tries to infiltrate a shuttle squadron onto a planet. If the shuttle reaches the surface it can give bonus points for light sabering speeder bikes, disabling shield generators, raising an Ewok army etc.

Force abilities! Like the Jedi apprentice that moved a whole fleet out of planetary orbit in one of the novels.

Steady, we are not playing Age of Sigmar here.

If we are playing a SWA scenario I think we can assume that the "My Wizzard Jedi destroys you before we start" stuff has been safely discarded as poppycock.

Well, he did die as a result of too much force power...so make it a discard?

How about new and interesting obstacles. Comets that slowly move through the game or asteroids you can destroy and turn into something that affects squadrons. Maybe even have ships that are destroyed become debris fields?

According to Rebels, yes, yes you can mount 2 AT-ATs under a Gozanti.

I still wish there was some sort of docking/launching mechanic for squadrons. It's probably too late on the design process to go back and add it in now though. Oh well.

Rapid Launchers. Wave 5

Boarding vessels for BOARDING ACTIONS!!!!!! AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

There's been a lot of debate on that card. I hope it allows you to deploy squadrons equal to your squadron value on a single command!

Also want, even though it has been vigorously debated and explored pretty thoroughly in another thread.

I think the most off the wall thing that I would like right now would be official rules and objectives for epic level play.

I'm sure that's coming, but once wave 5 hits I will have just about everything that I want!

I was totally joking by the way ;-)

I want an upgrade card expansion pack. Maybe 1 pack for each wave containing 1 copy of each upgrade card from that wave. I'd also like one with new ship cards and titles for ships that they've already produced. For example a Neb B with an Imperial refit on one card and a Medical frigate on the other or a CR90 with a unique side (Farstar, Sundered Heart) for the rebels and an Assassin class corvette for the Imps.

I want Palpatine.

I want Palpatine.

I have an eerie feeling he is in wave 5. We have the shuttle. Why not Palpatine?

Launching two AT-AT's as a boarding action would be fun :)

Or station them on asteroids like it was done in the CW show with AT-TEs in an asteroid belt.

Or have make them upgrade to increase the flotilla's attack dice by 1 when attacking out of its forward arc.

Oh and for someone to make tiny little AT-AT shapeway miniatures for people to glue to their Gozanti Cruisers.

I've always liked the idea of how the Light Side and Dark Side were represented in FFG's RPG, and wished there was a clever way to add it to their miniatures games. How it worked is that there were a number of double sided tokens (white on one side for LS, black on the other side for DS) and when you wanted to use the Force to manipulate something, you flipped it over which then gave the other side use of it.

Maybe in Armada each player would have a double sided token - each player sets theirs to their side's color (red/blue maybe?) to start the game. You can use either token as long as it is showing your color. Maybe you could spend it to reroll 1 die up to 2 times (either yours or your opponents). Spending it flips it over, but it is discarded after your opponent uses your token - that way it's easy to track and each player only get 2 uses out of this ability per game.

I like the idea of "using the Force" to change your odds.

How did I miss that!? Thanks!!!

Also, I am one of those that would REALLY love to see Grand Admiral Thrawn as an admiral, along with the Chimaera ISD title and Pelleon as a crew upgrade.

I would like a fire ship option for rebel transports.........and YT freighters.... Maybe imp shuttles when they are out.

My "You know what would be cool..." list

  1. Executor epic-scale expansion. Yeah, I want it.
  2. Braha'tok gunship. A small-size flotilla with reasonable dice pools and no fleet support slot. A combat flotilla.
  3. Ithorian herdship. A medium-size slow ship with fleet support upgrades, and new fleet support upgrade cards too.
  4. Official support for enhanced terrain pieces. 3D obstacles, please. Let's not have had Space Rocks die in vain.
  5. New titles, even new ship variants. Package them with some repaints or something.
  6. An Outer Rim campaign expansion. One player starts with a modest Scum fleet that includes some squadrons and small ships, and he captures enemy ships along the way. Other players are Rebel or Imperial commanders trying to fight back against the burgeoning pirate empire. Scum faction compatible cards for Firesprays, JM5Ks, Aggressors, YV-666s, Y-Wings, Z-95s, VCXs, and Shadowcasters. Maybe some new squadrons of classic Scum ships, like Scyks, Starvipers, and Protectorate Fighters. These squadrons wouldn't be tournament-legal under most circumstances, but a limited number of them would be if you included some kind of Scum-friendly upgrade card. This introduces classic Scum ships in a safe way that doesn't commit them to supporting a third faction. But, if viable capital ship options come along the road (like the Mandalorians on Star Wars Rebels, for instance), they have room to build.
  7. Immobilizer-class Star Destroyer. A small-base (600m compared to the Interdictor's 1600m) ship with experimental retrofit slots and new upgrades.
  8. Katana fleet expansion. A dreadnaught model, with an Imperial dreadnaught ship card and another Rebel ship card. Small base, but perhaps as much as six hull and three command. A pocket battleship. And Thrawn as a commander.
  9. Quasar carriers as an Imperial ship, but with a unique title that lets Rebels field one.

I can not believe that no one has said it yet, but a Super Star Destroyer. :D

Bad CDAT......no.........
