Which reminds me of another question I had. Rey and Finn's cards says when attacking or defending. In the past this has meant you could use it for attack or defense but not both . Is this still the case? My opponent was using it for both in the same turn.

What was your precedent for this conclusion? Generally, an ability can be used each time it is triggered, unless it specifies "once per round..." or something similar. Rey and Finn both have no such restriction.

I can't recall specifically...it's been awhile since I played tournaments. Typically though "or" refers to one or the other but not both while "and" would be both.

Not in this instance. You evaluate the whole card each time one of the triggers ('When defending' or 'when attacking') is triggered and do what it says.

Plus, it's really hard to be attacking and defending at the same time.

Otherwise you could abuse gunner.

You roll

Hit - Blank - Blank

Soend the target lock to reroll 2 blank and get nothing, then you cannot reroll your hit with the same target lock to ensure gunner effect. Bit as far as I know you could use other reroll effects like Predator or Rage for the leftover die
