Battlefield 1

Anyone out there play the game?

I started playing the Battlefield series back at the first one with BF 1942. It was great b/c it was a WWII fps that was more than fighting in a little box, like CoD was. It had wide maps and included all sorts of vehicles. I was hooked b/c it added strategy to a FPS when tactics were all that happened before. I've played every version of this game, except the one with crooks vs cops.

PC is how I play most of my video games. I did get an Xbox recently and thought I was going to stay with it as I didn't have the cash to update my pc. A friend donated enough bits that I was able to build a pretty decent rig, though. My brother plays on pc and we usually play BF games together. He bought me my copy of the current game so we could play together, so it's on PC.

First off, I like that BF 1 is WW I as it's right at 100 years since the war. That's pretty cool as many people tend to forget about WW1 these days. I like the visuals in the game and feel it's an beautifully rendered game.

With that said, I do have to say that there are way too many SMGs in the game for my taste. Yeah, I get that they need to make it a bit playable for the masses, but it's not so historic. I do like that the medics get the rifles, though. That is pretty cool.

I like the Zepplin or Dreadnaught mechanic that has them come out when one side is losing. I've seen games turned around and come backs pulled off when something like that would never happen in any of the previous games. All these were due to the bonus vehicle that showed up. I don't think it's so powerful that the losing side auto-wins and if they use the tool right and work together, they can come back. It's nice. It gives a losing team a chance to come back from being screwed early on. Games aren't a shut out.

Air Power really dominated a lot of early versions of BF, especially BF 2. With BF 4, they finally balanced it right with the mobile AA rockets. It was still hard, but you could at least scare off a jet or heli for a while. With BF1, I love the AA in the game. It's set at designated spots and really rips up a plane. It still takes some skill to lead planes, but it can be done. I've still seen bombers and planes really win the game, though. If you are supporting an infantry attack, people usually can't man the AA guns as they will just get shot. So, airplanes used in support of infantry attacks are pretty powerful. They aren't flying gods like in previous games. One good pilot can't win you the game overall. That's good.

It was either the Alpha or Beta that had the support class with the trip wire bomb and that has changed with the game coming out. It's too bad as I love the trip wire. I don't normally play sniper, so I don't use it as much.

I'm torn with what is my favorite class. I'll usually play medic or support most games. I like the medic gun with the sniper scope and 26 shots. I also like the BAR for support. It's pretty accurate and does enough damage. That's important. My brother loves the one that has 200 rounds in it before reloading. He likes to just spray and pray. Suppression fire. I've tried it, but I like to aim and hit. I also like the mortar. It's pretty short ranged and just enough firepower to be worth it. Not a lot of ammo and you can't just sit there and spam it all day long. I've always loved blowing up tanks and APCs in the game, so I do like playing Assault. I usually do AT rifle and AT grenades, but will sometimes switch it out for mines early in a match. I usually do SMG, but if there are enough shotgunners out there, I switch to counter them.

Yeah, shotguns can piss me off on some maps. You just can't do much in certain areas against them. Out in the open, though, they are toast.

The medal system is pretty cool to give you goals while playing the game. If ind it fun. It's been buggy lately, though, which pisses me off. The medal I'm working on just disappears from my list to be replaced by another. I get about 1/2 way through it and it gets swapped again. It's totally frustrating to try to finish one. Sometimes it just drops one between matches and you don't realize until too late.

Anyways, I'm rambling at this point. I wasn't sure if anyone else here liked the game. I love the Battlefield franchise and am happy with the latest game. Yeah, there are always haters for EA or whatever aspects, but I just like to have fun.

I'm playing on PC, Jef245 is my handle.

I also started with 1942 back in the day, and when I saw the trailer for 1, it got me thinking that I should get back into gaming and ask for an XBOX for X-mas.

I'm playing on PS4 and love it.

I'm not good enough at the game to have a great (or even positive) K/D ratio, but playing as a Medic lets me make a decent contribution to team and score fairly well. The great thing about Battlefield games is that playing the objective properly is more important than having great skill in FPS games.

If anyone wants to squad up then please feel free to drop me a friends request. My PSN name is richard_thomas

Yes, I agree that it's more about objectives. That's why I like it better than any other FPS.

I don't have the game, but i have played a bit at my friend's. So much fun.

I don't think the SMG's were necessary to make the game more approachable. It would take some adjusting but people would be ultimately fine with rifles if the game plays well.

I don't know. I'm not a fan that they set it at the end of the war rather then the beginning or closer to the middle when they had whackier uniforms. It's a weird game, I really want to enjoy it because of WW1 but I think that in the end they made it feel too much like WW2. Don't get me started on the Biplanes.

Ultimately a really fun game, I just wish they had put more effort making it feel historically accurate. I'm tired of this idea that history has to be spiced up to be fun and entertaining.

I think they had to throw realism out the window to sell a WW1 game. There are quite a few WW1 shooters/mods out there but its a pretty niche era. I've played a few and they are fun at first, but get pretty stale after a while. Let's face it. Trench warfare is not fun. In real life or in a video game.

I feel like they have enough analog stuff in BF1 to make it feel like a bygone era, but kept enough modern shooter elements to make it fun. There are still some balance issues they need to work out.

The Support weapons need a damage buff. Right now they are all 5-6 hits to kill no matter what range. I think at close range they should be 4 hits to kill. That way they can better compete against SMGs and shotguns.

That brings me to shotguns. They are a bit too powerful. I can't believe I'm saying this because in most games shotguns are not good at all. The best shotgun is the Model 10-A and you can get OHKs at some crazy ranges.

They need to look at the medic guns too. All of the 5 round capacity weapons need a serious damage buff. They should at least be a OHK for a headshot. Right now there is basically no reason to use them unless you want a challenge. They don't do anymore damage than the higher mag capacity rifles.

As far as vehicles I think its pretty good. I do think the Stationary AA needs to be toned down a bit. Either damage output or RoF. It is simply too powerful against aircraft. Alternatively, aircraft should take a bit more damage from player weapons and mounted MGs. Also, the rear mounted MGs on the attack plane and bomber is too powerful. There really isn't a point to the fighter. The rear MGs can nearly fire in a 360 degree bubble since they can fire through the aircraft. Either limit the damage or restrict the firing arcs. An attack plane with a good pilot and gunner can just own a match.
