Possible use for R3?

By mad mandolorian, in X-Wing Squad Lists

i'm currently building a rebel list and need some astromech help

Horton Salm + TLT + Vectored Thrusters + astromech (33+)

Jake Farrell + Title + Prockets + VI + AT + Outmaneuver (33)

Gemmer Sojan + Title + Prockets + AT + Opportunist (31)

i'm thinking ether R5-P9, R7-T1 or R3, though i'm eyeing M9-G8 once it comes out

other questions are: should I swap VI for crack shot? and should i take ordnance instead of Vectored Thrusters?

what doesn't work with R3?

why, secondary weapons of course!

give up on the card, it's a load of bull for ultimately a gain that just isn't worth it

which is to say, an evade token is snazzy but the mountains of crap you have to wade through just to get it to be useful is nowhere near worth braving

m9-g8 is perhaps the most useful choice since Horton never needs to TL (his ability provides re-rolls) but it's expensive and he doesn't really synergize with it (see Tarn Mison) and the benefit it gives to A-wings is minimal at best

m9-g8 helping out another TLT is, however, another story

R3 makes a swell bookmark. The card is a nice size and thickness and if it falls out and gets lost, it's not like I wasted $3 on it like the fancy ones they sell at the bookstore.

EPT bot + Vi on Horton so he can b-roll away from fools trying to get too close and TLT them.

MineGate (m9G8) is awesome bot, and making ships like Dengar reroll an attack die, could save your awings. Also, when going against other TLTs, you can make them reroll a hit each shot.

If you're dead-set on using R3, put the BTL-A4 title on Horton.

This means that you can use Hortons ability on his primary attack (if required) to increase the chance of rolling an eyeball. Then follow up with the TLT barrage. The downside is of course, keeping ships in arc witha Y-Wing. Not impossible but tricky.

Horton+TLT+R3+BTL+VT

Or some such.

I am thinking that M9-G8 will become a popular upgrade, the question is who to put him on? Many heavy hitters like having Regen droids which reduces the scope slightly. My favourite caddies are probably, Biggs, Thane and Tarn.

M9-G8 is better than R4-D6 on Biggs against all except large attacks. Of course because M9-G8 can stop crits much more reliably than hits, it may actually be better on somone to cover Bighs while Biggs keeps R4-D6. Something like this:

26 Biggs (25), R4-D6(1), IA (0)

32 Thane (26), M9-G8 (3), Weapons Engineer (3), Alliance Overhaul (0)

42 Miranda (29), TLT (6), Homing Missile (5), EMs (2) Guidance Chips (0)

100 Total

The 3 ships advance together and Thane takes a turn 1 lock on Miranda and Biggs. Once they enter combat, Thane tries to keep a TL on Miranda where possible to boost her homing missiles or TLT. Keep him near Biggs and use his ability to take a free TL when someone shoots at Biggs to shift his second lock to whoever is targetting Biggs. You may reduce hits on Biggs but more importantly you can usually reduce Crits meaning Biggs will get more mileage out of R4-D6.

Thane is the best use for M9G8 for my money. Pair him with a couple of higher-skill pilots, hope to mod their dice, then switch to two enemies, mod their dice, then mod your own.

I don't think that M9-G8 is a good fit on Biggs at all. It's great on a ship in a squad with Biggs but is a poor choice for Biggs himself. If Biggs has M9-G8 then his cost goes up and he is going to have to use his action to take a target lock instead of a focus. With his mid-PS, it won't be unusual for him to not be able to use M9-G8 defensively during the first round of combat.

I have used him on Dutch with TLT. Works pretty good. Of course it's not the most competitive of bots.

R3 doesn't work with TLT. It is primary weapon only. If it did it might at least have a niche.
