Palp modifing a Snap Shot?

By killerbeardhawk, in X-Wing

Regardless of who is instructed to roll the dice, the rulings so far have been consistent with the idea that the source of the modification is the ship considered. This is the same reason Zuckuss does not work against OL, Elusiveness does not work against OL, but Palpatine does (if palp is on another ship). It doesn't matter who is doing the rolling, the "you" who is acting is the ship with the modifier on board.

I admit I dislike the fact that the way these abilities are worded is inconsistent with the ruling. On the other hand, it is at least consistent (so far), which makes it easier. The source of the modification is the actor.

At least until they change their mind.

trying to think what would be broken if "you" was changed to be the player.

Something tells me if that change happened the game would completely shatter....

Palpatine should be able to modify a Snap Shot attack as long as Palpatine is on a different ship than Palpatine.

+1, the Omega Leader precedence applies directly to the Snap Shot case as well, so yes Palpatine can modify a friendly ship's Snap Shot attack

That being said, Palpatine typically gets the most value out of flying with Aces, and Imp Aces tend to get more mileage out of cards like Push or Juke or VI. That being said, a Snap Shot Mauler Mithel, for instance, is only a 5th of the list and throws 3-Die snap shot attacks. In my opinion, probably worth it over the Snap Shot Black Squadron Pilot who only saves 3 points. Scourge is also only 17pts and has some chance to add a Snap Shot die.

Wampa = 14

Scourge + Snap Shot = 19

Mithel + Snap Shot = 19

Omega Leader + Juke + Comms Relay = 26

Omicron Shuttle + Palp + Collision Detector = 21

It's an interesting spin on a Palp Ace Build, but the aces are weak and frail. That being said, Wampa is a perennial threat to aces and can set-up a Scourge bonus die on Snap Shot and Regular attacks. Palp can modify, when desired, the 3-Die snap shots of Mithel or Scourge. It will struggle against a lot of things, especially Dengaroos and X7s, but it could be fun.

This list is 107 points. You didn't add Palp's squad cost. I wish there was a way to make this work.

Edit: You could drop OL for a Sienar Test Pilot with Title and AT. That would be OK and 100 points.

Almost everything would be broken, but for starters consider that the ARC-170 title would give all of a player's ships +1 attack die when attacking in arc with their primary, for zero points.

Or consider the value of performing 2 actions during your Perform Action step with every ship in your squad, for the low low price of taking Darth Vader.

It might be fun to try out once or twice, just to see what power combos exist.

Virtually everything would be broken - ptl would be something you take on a single ship that sits out of the fight allowing everyone to double action, for instance... Any upgrade card being unique would be completely irrelevant. Etc etc.

Hopefully it was obvious that I meant to write "the ship whose roll is being modified" instead of "Palpatine".

I fixed it, just it case it wasn't:

"as long as the ship whose roll is being modified is on a different ship than the ship whose roll is being modified".

That should clear up any confusion that I may have caused with that typo.

Interesting interaction happened with Snap Vessery. Maarek had TL on Rey, who he ended up blocking the round it was taken, when Vessery Snapped her the following round he still gets his free target lock after rolling dice, correct? We played it as so, which allowed Maarek to use his lock without preventing Vessery from getting one.

Why so mad about snap shot when you can have Carnor instead ;)

Yeah, Vessery gets the TL. He just can't spend it to modify the Snap Shot attack.
