2016/2017 Regionals Season Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

I am told Madrid had a 200 player regional at the same time as Yavin. I can't find the results because I can't read Spanish. Can anyone help?

Edit: Missed a whole page of info, but after looking at it, still not sure if I missed it. Did we get final results for the Vancouver regional posted? Apologies if I looked right past it.

Woo-hoo! Congrats Corwin.

Although I was also hoping to see the Threepeat too, Patryk.

Madrid Regionals, 197 players. I played a not-so-sharp attani list and had much fun. Came up short getting 4-2 but missing the cut by 40 MOV. The winner was 12th in swiss and the runner up was actually 32nd in swiss. I'll post my batrep soon.

Top 32 had 7 Rebels, 13 Imperials and 12 Scum.

Winner: Francisco José Gómez Chamorro

Bossk — YV-666
VI, Zuckuss, K4, 4-LOM

Dengar — Jumpmaster 5000
PTL, K4, R5-P8, EU, Punishing One

Runner Up: Iván Verdera Igeño

Warden - K-Wing
EM, Sabine Wren, Seismic Charges, Prox. mines, AdSlam

Warden - K-Wing
EM, Seismic Charges, Conner, AdSlam

Warden - K-Wing
EM, Chopper, Seismic Charges, Cluster Mines, AdSlam

@blairbunke what's your thought on taking 4-LOM on the mindlink scouts? I've been considering dropping one of my intel agents for him to help counter Parattanni.

I'm not Blair but I would say one drawback could be they tend to have multiple Focus tokens and 4-LOM only stops them from using one, so they'll just use the other one.

The Ottawa regional's results are now up.

The streamed games (except for the first round of cuts) are up too. If you hate parattani for some reason skip the last 4, there's 5 of them and another Asajj list ;)

And yeah, I know boosting with Fenn in the final was ballsy and did not pay off, but it seemed like a good idea at the time :D (a barrel roll would've been smarter)

@Stay On The Leader , It prevents Asaj from using her evade, Manaroo can't get more than one, and the jumps are all lower pilot skill so the Parattanni ship can't spend focus on offense to have two for defense (barring Manaroo focus, other ship focus, pass focus for three, but then they're not getting a TL, evade or reposition). I'm okay with forcing any one of those choices.

I'm the guy that flew the mindlink uboats in the Alaska regional and lost out to parattani in the top 4. Was totally my game to lose. I blocked all 3 of his ships for a couple rounds in a row, traded one uboat for manaroo, 3 damage cards on asajj and a direct hit on fenn. Then flew the rest of the game flying rather les well and only ever did one more damage to fenn. Lost at time to half point asajj and 1 hp fenn with one uboat on the table.

As for the question, I agree that 4lom isn't the best option. Only really works against asajj' evade. In our game asajj never actually got to USE an evade action. And fenn or manaroo can both have 2 focus tokens anyway.

Personally I ran 2 intel agents and zuckuss for the third crew. Doesn't help against asajj, but could help kill fenn in that matchup (second to last round shooting at 1 hp fenn, got 2 hits, he only rolled 1 evade. Too bad the zuckuss refill came back up as another evade...). And it can be helpful in a lot of other matchups. When you have 3 linked uboats, as long as one can clear stress you still get all the action economy.

I placed 9th with them at Mustafar. I've been flying 2 intels and boba (dropping one to OC R4 to fit a proton in). The problem I've been having with parattanni is asaj being even more of a tank when she gets a free evade for every ship. Is there a stream of your match? I'd be interested to see if it's more of a tactics shift than an upgrade shift that needed for the list to win.

I had boba originally until I realized I could do zuckuss. Against asajj you of course don't reroll with zuckuss, but is useful elsewhere.

sadly our match wasn't on the stream. My only streamed match was...I believe it was round 2 versus the eventual winner (I won). Part of it was just luck. The way he was set up he ended up with manaroo in front, asajj behind manaroo and fenn in the back. Round 2 I blocked manaroo, who blocked asajj, who blocked fenn. No actions for him. My blocked also ended up just a hair out of asajj' mobile arc.

Took him a couple rounds to realize his fenn could clear a 5s to get out and was less than a mm away from bumping. That's the round my first uboat and manaroo died. After that I wasn't I. Position to keep blocking at the time. Blocked asajj one more round, the. She got away and flew around the far side of the board while I tried (and failed) to kill fenn. She got back for the last few rounds before time.

In general my ideal would be to try to just blow up asajj asap with torpedoes. Since there's no way the primaries will finish her off once she starts stressing

Alaska regional was streamed. Be aware that it's a very small meta and the matches were unusual.

Anyone know if there's any video from Vancouver regionals?

Alas, there is not.

I was curious how the Whisper Wampa Shuttle setup/utilized strategy as I've been toying with an idea like this.........

I think it is more of an issue of we do not have a "meta." Locally, we take some pride in coming up with our own lists. I almost think we like that aspect of the game as much as any. While some meta lists are flown, we have a lot of very good players flying weird stuff. You will find that generally people visiting from outside having a difficult time here.

I played against this list in Round 5 of Swiss. He basically set up the shuttle near the center of the board, then deployed Wampa and Whisper at Range 2 of Dormitz towards my end of the board, giving them both an evade ready for round 1 combat. Round 1 he moved the shuttle up and used coordinate to pass another action to Whisper. So he basically ends up with 2 ships that are turtled up in Round 1, but the shuttle is not in combat range.

It was definitely the biggest "what just happened" moment at the tournament for me haha...

That sounds wonderful!

Sadly, Alaska is a little far for me to go, even for X-Wing...

Glad to see an Upsilon Shuttle list made it into TOP 8 Vancouver.

I thought 4-lom was a better choice over Zuckuss or Intel or whoever else but tbh the decision to bring him or not was more or less inconsequential in my opinion. My big takeaway from that tournament was that I was a complete idiot for bringing mindlink torpedo boats in a meta where Parattanni is dominating. Yeah sometimes one of those ships will have 2 focuses but you're not really bringing 4-lom for that match up he's more there to deal with Defenders and Corran and if you're forcing your opponent to not spend focus on offense 4-lom has more or less made his money anyway. In my top 8 game Bryan focus fired hard on my Boba torpedo boat and killed him before I could use him on Latts. Thus he was able to convert approximately 15 stress tokens into evades down the stretch which easily was the difference in the match. That was just hard to deal with as I couldn't kill Manaroo first cause of her ability and he was super aggressive with Fenn right off the bat so I kinda had to go for him. I see other guys have had success with it so maybe they're onto something I'm not but I don't think the action efficiency of mindlink outweighs the fact that Assajj is getting a free reinforce action every **** turn against you.

Wow I guess you can't say da mn on here anymore? **** you Disney. Props to my brother-in-law though he was down on himself after missing the cut at his last two regionals. BMF did what he could but got diced a bit in top 4 we need to petition his wife to let him come to Worlds though, as Calen already is, and see what kind of a run the Vancouver B.C. aces can make

I'm the guy crazy enough to take Dormitz to a regionals. We play weaker lists in general at home and lots of off meta stuff so I was not prepared at all for Parratani which was my only losses on the weekend, once in swiss and then in the top 8 (and they weren't very close, my opponents each played very differently so I didn't get to adapt my swiss game to top 8 very well). The lists biggest advantage is like bmf said above, the "wtf is happening" factor you get from turn 1 engages. With hyperwave comm scanner and coordinate and palp you token really hard turn 1 and just fly whisper in, generally aiming for range 2 - 3 engages as it sets you up really well for next turn. The idea was that Whisper does Whisper things and causes them to have to dog fight her while the shuttle cruises in turn 2 and brings 4 more red dice. I played lots of Ghosts all weekend and they don't like seeing turn 1 whispers with that many tokens flying at them.

Wampa does what you expect, he'll put the fear of God into certain ships but most of the time he's an annoying blocker and takes shots for Whisper. In my 3rd round I played Soontir, Jax, and Inquisitor and he had to kill Wampa or he'll just lose that game so because he had to commit hard to Wampa I got 2 4 dice attacks into Inquisitor at range 2 and just killed him so against those types of lists Wampa can really help you trade up.

The shuttle should have Collision Detector no excuses I'm just an idiot and didn't even bother looking at upgrades due to stupidity. FCS is probably worth going to a 1 pt initiative bid going forward but I didn't have a ton of time to practice different load outs and in general I value high bids with Whisper. You can probably drop the hyperwave comm scanner and take Stridan if the list becomes expected because the only reason you need Dormitz is the surprise factor, if you lose that to any major degree I think the range 3 coordinates and kylo shuttle help support Whisper better.

I love the idea and appreciate you sharing, I am definitely going to try it!!!!
