Bilbao (Spain) regional is this weekend, and between the Attani horde horde there are some pretty interesting lists in the Top 16. Hello A-wings.

1- Iván Verdera: 3x K-wing
2- Urtzi Urzelai: Attani Asajj Fennaroo
3- Roberto Pérez: Palp + Carnor + Defender
4- Víctor Rubio: Brobots
5- Miguel Ángel Cela: Dengar + Bossk
6- Javier Hidalgo: Rey + Corran
7- David Luís Lozano: Attanni Asajj Fennaroo
8- Andoni Abril: Attani Asajj Fennaroo
9- Luís Martínez: Palpafenders
10- Joel Guillamon: 3x A-wing aces
11- Daniel Herrero - he dropped from the TOP16
12- José Bernardo Blanco: Dengar + Bossk
13- Ander López: Attani Asajj Fennaroo
14- Ekaitz Fraile: BBBBZ
15- Domingo Rodríguez: Dengar + Asajj
16- Willy Jarque: YT-2400 + 3x A-wing
17- Luis Lozano: Attani Asajj + Fenn + Old

Iván Verdera is the only player with a 6-0. The top will be played tomorrow (in ~10 hours as I'm writing this), and should be streamed here , I hope with less issues than today. The swiss VOD's can be watched there too.

And Roberto Pérez (#3 in the swiss) won with his Palp (collision)-Carnor (PTL, title, Stealth, AT)-Maarek (Juke, x/7, MkII) list, against Luis Martinez (#9) with Palp-Vessery-Ryad. The only two imperials to make the Top reached the final.

A-wing aces were knocked out in first round, while Willy's hilarious list reached the top8.

Results like this make me curious about the ebb and flow of the popularity of certain builds, along with the Han and Jake placing in top 4 at worlds.

You can see it even with Dengaroo now. Players seem to be getting bored of it and are dropping it for other options not because it isn't competitive, but because Dengaroo has a "been there done that" type of feel. Now the question is are Booth and Mooney just so strong with Brobots/HanJake that they can still make them great despite a gap in their capabilities vs current meta staples, or are players simply just not running these lists because they aren't the "new hotness"?

You have to be good to place high with a 2 die ship, pretty plain and simple

Id bet it is just a case of a player really enjoying those ships and doing their darndest to make them work

Meta be damned

How would you get Rex in a Kanan/Biggs/Zeb build. I am trying to make him fit without making Kanan useless!

Not easily. You'd have to build right down to a budget and just give Kanan Dorsal Turret, then rely on your skill as a pilot to make Biggs immortal. I think it would be better without the Phantom tbh - the Rex effect should be enough to offset the additional TLT shot.

I would guess it is a mix of everything you mention. There will be many peopke who just want to play the power-gamer list of doom and will switch to a new one when it shows up. FFGs Dengaroo nerfing would dissuade those kinds of players. These kinds of folks seemed to take up a lot of space in the 40k player pool back in the day when I paid attn to GW. GW also had a long tradition of making the new releases more broken than the last. Not sure where things land there now.

Others just get bored and want to explore other aspects of the game after playing a list a bunch of times.

I've enjoyed seeing a larger array of list types in this thread than I noticed in the past. There seems to also be more variation within trope types - like Imperial Aces.

Rebel bombers is refreshing since it is using old ingredients to make some new hotness.

I hadn't cut it by Wave. I define /x7 Defenders as Wave 9, Palpshuttle as Wave 7.

Edited by Stay On The Leader

I'm curious to see the breakdown if you count the pilot's Wave based on the most recent upgrade equipped. I.E. Naked Biggs would be Wave 1, but he generally would have R4-D6 (Wave 3.5) and Integrated Astromech (Wave 8) equipped, pushing him to Wave 8. This would show that even though he is an old pilot, he has benefited from the more recent power creep.

This one has ended just a few minutes ago. Some really interesting lists in both, in and outside the top. I finished 27th after a crappy start, but overall I'm happy with the result.

Love to see Barcelona #10 do so well ... I've run almost the exact same list (same pilots, slighty different astromech loadout) with great success in a couple of small tournaments.

The most amusing thing to happen at this tournament (and perhaps any tournament) was on day 1 during the second round of the Swiss when the eventual winner dropped a cluster mine on a full health Dengar and killed him in one go. The Dengar player rolled 5 out of 6 hits after moving over all three tokens, took an extra damage from Sabine, and then had to roll a die for the debris he landed on. He rolled a crit, which turned out to be a major explosion, and then rolled another hit which gave him a direct hit to finish him off.

That's so sad. :(

Also, quite a few errors in the Barcelona lists. And by errors I mean X-Wings. :P

Sad for the guy that lost Dengar so suddenly, but absolutely hilarious for everyone else :D

Edit: Out of curiosity I worked out that the odds of successfully destroying a full-health Dengar with a cluster mine with Sabine + debris field is approximately 1923 to 1.

Hey, it's an AWACS bomber! :)

I imagine it spent the day doing its best Biggs impression, given the other option was to shoot into 4 agility, triple-token Defenders...

The regional in Rome, Italy, just ended parattanni won another time. There were 66 players and at least 11 parattanni. I think the runner up faced, counting both swiss and top, 7 mirror matches (out of 9!)

Winner:

  • Tony Petriconi - Parattanni

Runner Up:

  • Niccolò Acquisto - Parattanni

Top 4:

  • Marco Peloni - Parattanni
  • Carlo Tozzi - Chireneu with Predator, Engine Upgrade, Gunner, Hotshot CoP, Vader. Inquisitor with PTL, title, Autothruster, Proton Rocket 100 pts

Top 8:

  • Dante Stefanucci - Commonwealth Defender
  • Giulio Taddei - Kanan with Finn, Rey, title, TLT, Tactical Jammer, FCS. Zeb with Chopper. Biggs with M9-G7, Integreted 100 pts
  • Marco Turchiano - Hera Syndulla & Chopper. I don't remember the exact list but it involved Cassian Andor, autoblaster and a decent amount of bumbing. Definetly the most interesting list in the tournament
  • Alvise Gaspari - Parattanni
