Poland is expensive for people from Western Europe? Lol, best one I've heard in a long time.

Harder to get to, more expensive to get to. Sure, the country might be dirt cheap to stay, but I can drive to the Ruhr area in two hours, Poland not so much. Same with Spain, I'm not going to drive through a couple of countries just to go play a game, or take a flight for that matter. Especially when you add a language barrier.

I understand that you feel a bit miffed, maybe check with the distributor what happened, might be the problem is with them even.

Being from Australia it's great to sit back with a beer in one hand and a bunch of Bunnings sausage sizzle snags in the other watching people bicker over who's getting what. Especially when these people are getting more than zero.

How good are bunnings snags!

But I am gonna bet that americans, british people and the german language region cover at least 2/3 of all X-Wing players anyway. Space and air combat has a special fascination in germany, the usa and the uk. Per capita the germans are usually with the highest headcount, sometimes in space sims even rivaling the total numbers of the americans.

Actually juggler's heatmap shows Germany as relatively light on X-wing tournaments. It seems like Poland has a much more robust tournament scene. It might be just that for some reason Germans simply don't upload their tournament results that much. That said, German SoS was definitely not as large as those in Poland and Denmark so there must be something to that map.

Jugglers heatmap shows not a single event in my area, while we have actually roughly one tournament with ffg price support per month. And the list juggler heatmap has less events in germany than t3 shows for this month alone. ;-)

T3 seems to be the defacto standard for this kind of things and list juggler gets ignored even for the bigger events like nationals or System Open Events. On top of that germans and privacy. ;-)

FFG has their sales numbers, I would assume they have the best data …

Speaking of data, T3 link:

There are too many events in the US.

However they shouldn't go to Europe instead. Australia needs at least one. Asia is a bit more tricky since the game isn't even supported in some areas as far as I know, but if possible that should be another place.

As for Germany getting one again - well it seems like they are looking for a new venue, hopefully a bit further north and not at some crappy convention for which you'd also need a ticket. Registration for that event was terribly mishandeled and confusing.

Poland is not harder to get to than any other Schengen country. You have trains, highways and a huge selection of budget airlines, which are dirt-cheap off season (especially if you book in advance). It's not the 80s anymore ;)

And once you get here, you pay like half price for everything ;) Prices are also the reason why Poland is more accessible to people from the Baltic states and Russia who will probably never get a SOS event of their own.

BTW. we're having a discussion in English on an American forum. What language barrier are you talking about? You can get by in English in any European country these days.

I just hope the event in Germany will be bigger than last year - with only 3 SoS events across Europe, there will probably be more people willing to travel to participate.

but is not correct to play final in the nation of the last winner?

No it really isn't. Winning any major event has no impact on where the event will be held next time.

Depends on the event. The Eurovision Song Contest does do it that way. I can't help but remember a stretch about ten years ago where Ireland kept entering increasingly worse and worse contestants and you could almost hear them yelling "Stop voting for us! We're going bankrupt hosting this bloody thing!"

Poland is great if you want to include russia, etc

But it certainly is the the one of the longest trips for spaniards, italians, greeks, french, etc … central western europe is germany. It unfortunately that the german tournaments seem to be done poorly last year and I have actually little hope for this year either, but from the travel time and infrastructure it really is a superior choice to Poland. Now having one in Paris and one Warschau would be a very solid way to exclude german organisers if they run again poorly and without decent coverage of the event.

And btw, Poland is clearly a superior choice compared to the USA. Their no-flight list is ridiculous these days, this can make things very fast, very annoying ;-)

And the population of both is...?

Instead of population we should look at X-wing sales numbers? It would be interesting to see population of X-wing gamers instead of just normal population. I have no real concept, but I am thinking that there are more people who play X-wing in the US than in Europe. I could be utterly wrong, though.

Asmodee has its headquarters in Paris … just saying. Maybe 2018?

Don't forget that there's a European Championship coming, and Paris may well be the host.

I am not sure if you are American or European, but I bet you didn't checked European cheap flights travel options for sure, my friend :)

In example as for now direct ticket form Paris to Krakow (former capital city of Poland) for January 2017 is.... 41 EUR (round trip ticket!)

I am mentioning Krakow as we are planning to invite players from whole Europe to our Regionals 7-8 January 2017, and I am in the middle of checking options to be able to give detailed info to all potentially interested pilots :)

When buying tickets in advance you can travel across whole western Europe for less than 100 EUR.

I know, as I participated Yavin SoS 2016 in Birmingham and I didn't participated Endor SoS as it was for me more conivient to travel to UK than to Warsaw :)

Actually I totally missed that. When, where exactly, sounds lik my wife is getting that Paris vacation we have been talking about? ^_^

Sooo... apparently some folks from Poland figured out the REAL reason why SoS were moved to US this season. :D
