California regional and open mistake.

By Hujoe Bigs, in X-Wing

Can someone illuminate why who ever scheduled this thought putting a open series on the same weekend a regional is, was a good idea? Come on, that was announced a while ago, this should of been spotted. I'm happy for more open series, but this just sounds of bad planning.

I don't live in California, nor do I have any capability to travel there for either event, but this should be fixed for them out on the west coast. (Glorified bump!)

Just be happy you live near an Open. I'm in ATL and the nearest to me is either Chi-town or SA. Around 10 hours by car to either.

How close are they? I mean, two major tournaments in CA is far different than in other states.

Take a look at the other thread about Seattle. There are many more of these Open events happening in the same state and on the same weekend as Regionals.

Same for Yavin and Cardiff. Poorly thought out.

It looks like they are already on it. The regional schedule page lists the Fresno regional as "subject to rescheduling".

You drive faster than I do then, and I am considered to just fly really low.

That's about the same drive that someone in the bay area will have to the System Open in SD.

Fresno to San Diego is about 350 miles or so.

As one of the people helping the Fresno regionals, this is quite literally the first thing we heard about this happening. Unless the store owner was notified before hand, but she is good about passing that info down the line.

I feel that speed limits are suggestions not law. Now the Highway cops tend to disagree with me...Frequently

Not to mention anyone in the bay area would have this drive to any open series if they choose to go.

I believe the Seattle area Regional Tournament is in early January at Uncle's Games in Redmond (very close to Seattle).

San Antonio ("Mustafar") is the same weekend as the Plano Regional at Madness Games & Comics. This is ridiculous!

(FYI, they are a 4-hour drive apart in Texas.)

Yep, Fresno to San diego is about 6+ hours from each other. I just got word from the Fresno store owner, no one has made mention of it till I informed her.

Uncle's is hosting it, but it's at Seattle Center.
