Maybe a Scum 'Epic'-scale ship isn't as inevitable as we expect?

Focus, Evade, and Stress Tokens Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect huge ships. When a huge ship receives any of these tokens, immediately remove them and return them to the token supply

TBH as a Huge ship can't get stress I'm sure they would rule that you couldn't use cards that had stress as part of their cost, so no Zuckuss. It would be similar to the ruling on Soontir and Yorr, the rules on huge ships would cancel the stress gain so the whole card would fizzle.

There is nothing stopping you from using Fleet Officer...

Also, Dengar isn't really all that effective in an environment full of generic pilots. Rerolling one die isn't that impressive, especially on a ship that cannot use Focus tokens.

Yeah there might be a window for them being on the ship. But I'm sure they would FAQ it, or Errata that one line, so that you couldn't use stress to pay for cards

I wouldn't be that worried about Dengar on a Huge ship (there are plenty of impressive abilities already in play).

Zuckus could simply be prohibited from being equipped to Huge ships (like Navigator) or operate slightly differently (like Biggs).

As for Comms Booster and Illicit in general ... if it would become an issue, then simply introduce a new type: "Contraband" (essentially Illicit Cargo, but not reuse those terms to avoid confusion) - this would be massively in theme, given those Huge holds would provide capacity for smuggled goods). Then you could additionally have a new Mod., Title or Contraband card that allows you to equip any Cargo upgrade costing 3pts or less into any of your other unused slots (sorta like the way Ord Tubes works) - that way your existing deck of Cargo cards won't be completely ruled out (I haven't reviewed the choices that leaves, perhaps there's still some nasty combos?).

The design considerations are not insurmountable - Jabba will have his day - it must be so!

The other part is, frankly, epic stinks. It's casual because it's not remotely balanced, the ships only sell to collectors and people wanting whatever insane upgrade card they have put in it to make it sell (see: C3PO, Palpatine, etc.). If it never comes, great. Don't want it. If I want large ships, I'll play Armada (that game that FFG also makes...).

Some of us actually...enjoy epic.

So, you blast that Epic out of the sky with Roark boosting a CR-90 Missile Boat to PS12, launching a salvo of IPM's and Homing Missiles destroying the energy production and taking away shields.

Or you have Jonus and Lt Dormitz flying escort to a Raider, allowing it to set up straight in your face, running over your Dengar and launching with a direct salvo of AHM's.

Also, setting up at range 2 of Dormouse with an Epic? Just realized.
