Manalinked

By RStan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

First of all, I'm surprised this isn't already the nickname for all Mindlink squads with Manaroo. So I've been toying with some list making and for awhile been wanting to make a Attanni Mindlink squadron. I've seen people mainly run Fenn Rau, Old Terry, and Manaroo, but I'm not sold on Old Terry just yet. Plus I don't own a second Protectorate anyway. So I've mainly decided to go with Kavil instead.

Manalinked:

Manaroo: 32 pts

-Attanni Mindlink

-K4 Security Droid

-Unhinged Astromech

-Feedback Array

Fenn Rau: 32 pts

-Attanni Mindlink

-Autothrusters

-Concord Dawn Protector

Kavil: 34 pts

-Attanni Mindlink

-TLT

-Vectored Thrusters

-Unhinged Astromech

Few things I've thought about to gain initiative bid is; switch feedback array to burnout SLAM on Manaroo OR get rid of Unhinged Astromech on Kavil OR drop Vectored Thrusters off of Kavil for a 98 bid. I've even considered an Autoblaster Turret Kavil with Engine upgrade and potentially a bomb, but I think TLT will be better coverage and more rounds of consistent damage, especially since there aren't as many Palp aces as much as Palpfenders.

I'm also aware that for the points, I could get a Party Bus in there instead of Kavil, which I'll potentially test in the future too.

I like it. I'm with you on the "not too sure about Terry" part. I want to try Palob instead of Kavil because of his ability to stack focus (3 focus in first round) with the title. with focus and two evade and possibly Latts crew I find him as durable or better than Kavil.

I have to say that Kavil with TLT and VT is very powerful though. Especially with unhinged... I have played him in other lists with VI and he is terrifying. For the fun Mindlink list I will try Palob with TLT, VT, Moldy Crow, Mindlink and crew of choice. with no crew you have an amazing bid (96) against other mindlink lists but for fun I see if Latts makes him more survivable for now :)

god, I love the possibilities in Scum right now :D

I've been calling it Manalink in my own files for a while, and I agree the name needs to happen. =)

I've been running Talonbane Cobra with Attanni Mindlink, Cloaking Device and Stygium Particle Accelerator for third ship. I will need to try Kavil and Palob at some point, but currently enjoying a second 5-dice PS9 attack ship.

I've also had advice to take Fenn Rau out of the Mindlink collective for a PTL, and switch the Unhinged/K4 combo on Manaroo for R5-P8 (shootback droid). Haven't tried that as much, and not entirely sure if 2 ships mindlink + PTL Fenn is great.

I can understand the indecision about Terry. He does seem a little lack luster (as i thought as first as well). But with the title and Manny handing out tokens like candy he becomes a serious threat at R1. In the majority of my games he has been the MVP. He is kinda like a tougher version of Carnor. Just takes some practice to get used to.

Once I have more practice with Fenn Rau and decide that, yes, I like the Protectorate overall and want to get a second one to try out Old Terry, then I'll go for it. If I just can't get a hang of Fenn Rau, then I've got other lists to go back to that I'm more familiar/comfortable with. One thing I needed clarification on is, what is the order of operations in the beginning of the combat phase for PS?

For example since this is my main concern. If the activation phase ends and Old Terry is staring down Dengar at rng 1. My opponent wants to use Manaroo's pilot ability to pass her tokens to Dengar. What's the order of operations for that? Does it end up in Old Terry's favor that when Manaroo transfers tokens to Dengar that then Old Terry's pilot ability goes off and discards them? Or is it the other way around unfortunately?

It's decided by initiative. If Dengar has it, he'll get the token first, then Terry will strip it. If Terry has it, he'll fail to strip anything, then Manaroo will pas her husband his token. (See my second game here.)
