Get Out and Vote!

By ianediger, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

Get out and Vote, fellow Americans! It only takes a short piece of your day!

Voting on a Tuesday...

How positively archaic ...

It's literally the ******* end of the world. I hate everyone.

It's literally the ******* end of the world. I hate everyone.

It isnt for most of the world. But I empathise with your pain

I voted for big T. I'm saying this only to make others aware that these forums are not homogeneously left-wing. I understand that you (the generic, impersonal, not-directed-at-anyone 'you') might not care, but I would ask, for all our sake, and for the community's sake, to keep the discussion civil and to keep the hyperbole, drama, baiting, trolling, etc. at a minimum. (Or, better yet, absent altogether).

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump supporters have attacked people, simply because they don't support Trump.

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump wants to deny LGBT rights to my friends, and your fellow citizens.

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump wants to "round up all the Muslims and deal with them."

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump thinks it is OK to remove rights from my mother and sisters, my girlfriend, and all other women in the country.

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump has no plan to lead this country.

You ask for us to be civil, yet Trump is leading a racist party that things Mexicans are rapists and drug dealers.

Do I need to continue? You cannot ask for US citizens to be civil, when the next president has no respect for anyone else. This might offend you, but when this country takes a turn for the worse, you can only blame yourself.

I think that counts as hyperbole. Hope and change has brought us nothing more than danger and division. Now, let's watch the tolerant Hillary supporters hold their "protests" with their Molotov cocktails as they "accept" the results of the election. I continue to pray for the country and I'm happy we will be headed in a different direction. Looking at congressional and gubanatorial races as well; this wasn't just about Hillary and Donald but about the overall direction in general. I hope we can still be friends

I'm asking you to be civil to me and to the rest of the community, because I intend to (and have been) civil to you.

None of what you posted above reflects my feelings and my reasons for voting for Trump, even if I was convinced that that is actually how he feels (and I don't). I am not your enemy.

I appreciate the conversation that most of us can have for items unrelated to Star Wars and/or Armada. I don't care who any of you voted for, that's what makes America great. The fact that we can have discussion about the results without resorting to violence.

When we have bickering and un-acceptance on this level, it really reflects poorly on us to the rest of the world that is also on these forums.

While I am pleased at some aspects of the election turnout, there are other issues that I'm not happy about. Since you've made your views well known, undeadguy, I'm sure there are some state/county/city/local items that went your way. In the end, those will have a much more profound impact on your life than who is the President for the next 4 years (that's less than 5% of your life).

Or Unlife, as it were.

The only thing I'll say is IMO the DNC did this to itself. They absolutely had to have Hillary as the nominee, they didn't care how many people they alienated by throwing Bernie Sanders under the bus.

I also hate those people telling me voting 3rd party is a vote for the other guy. Only having 2 options leads to this endless giant ******/turd sandwich election cycle.

Speaking of... South Park should be epic tonight.

What about after the EPA and FDA are defunded and removed? Pharmy stock is up like 200 points in preparation for deregulation and the removal of the Affordable Care Act. All 3 branches of government are going to be Republican once Trump gets a Supreme Court Justice.

Change is coming. And it's going to come hard and fast. There is no road blocks between a Democratic president and a Republican Congress. Expect **** to hit the fan in the first 6 months.

If I am wrong, feel free to rub it in my face, because I will be overjoyed that I was wrong. But if I am right, everyone who voted for Trump royally ****** up and are to blame for this.

On a side note, I support neither candidate sine Bernie got knocked out.

I don't think it's the zombie apocalypse you're making it out to be (see what I did there?). The Rebublicans aren't exactly "conservative", appointees to the Supreme Court can do what they want once appointed (John Roberts), and the bureaucracy is its own leviathan resistant to change. Stasy is right in the sense that the DNC did this to themselves. Ultimately, I think the American people just gave a big middle finger to the elites, the media complex, entertainment, and crony capitalists for insulting and disregarding us racist deplorables holding onto our God and guns. But, who am I? Just a dumb, uneducated white male who pays too many taxes and sees more and more of my hard earned money being taken for various regulations and fees. You may be right, I may be crazy, but Donald Trump may be the lunatic we're looking for.

Mark my words on this too; as the smoke clears, you're going to see evidence that Andrew Cuomo is also partly responsible for this election.

The unconstitutional passing of the Safe Act in New York State was a serious wake-up call and mobilization to everyone else in the country: if you don't want this happening in your state, you had BETTER elect someone who will safeguard the 2nd Amendment and put forth pro-2nd Amendment Justices.

They (the Democratic party) put a LOT of people's backs up against the wall. There are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle that can be involved in compromise on many things, but coming after guns is simply not one of them. I submit that given how close this race is, if Hilary backed off on her gun-control issue she would have won. This is a sacred cow to many Americans. It doesn't matter if you don't like it, don't understand it, hate guns, hate rednecks or whatever. There is a proper way to Constitutionally handle the 2nd Amendment, and that involves the very hard work of passing of a new Amendment. Authority has not been granted to any state to put up there own gun control measures (and in fact the Bill of Rights specifically prohibits this), and the more austere your controls are the more egregious the offense. We "gun nuts" can handle a certain amount of gun control nonsense; not because we necessarily agree with it, but because it demonstrates our willingness to put our hat in the ring of compromise. What happened in NY, especially with the massive upstate conservative presence pushed things too far. You better believe that scared a lot of people in other parts of the country.

As for my single voice, I will be happy to let Hillary Clinton retire peacefully or run the Clinton foundation. I think she's done in politics for the most part. But I'll be spending a good portion of my time writing Mr. Trump and/or the new Attorney General (please be Rudy) for a special investigation and indictment of Mr. Cuomo for high treason against the people of the State of New York. Not that I think such an endeavor would go anywhere or be successful, but it would hopefully put every state Governor and state Senate on notice that it is not ok to play fast and loose with the 2nd Amendment.

Mr. Garrison has obviously lost all hope in humanity. Darn you Memberberries!

Jokes aside, I'm glad that this thread, for the most part, seems to be discussing the matter civilly rather than how alot of people seem to be treating it like it is the end of the world, for the moment anyways.

I doubt you were saying these things 6 years ago when the Democrats had the presidency and both houses. Just to put things in perspective...

Considering I was 17 at the time and was in high school, you are correct since I didn't know anything about politics.

Even if it is the end of the world (and I don't think it is, although I think that it does bump the chance significantly), it shouldn't prevent us from discussing it civilly ;)

I'm an Australian so while I respect that its only the business of the people of the U.S who you elect, I also know that the freedom and security of the world and the prosperity of the world is underpinned by a prosperous, happy and responsible U.S.

I'm happy that all Trump, Clinton and Obama are trying to strike a rational and respectful tone and uphold a democratic transition.

Yes there are protests, there would have been under any outcome. I hope they will be peaceful and in the end the people will respect the outcome. I suspect the U.S isn't as 'divided' as we are continuously being told. Every country has 5% at each end of the spectrum that aren't going to be happy under any scenario and act irresponsibly, unfortunately rather than being ignored they become the centre of attention.

All the best!

You may be right, I may be crazy, but Donald Trump may be the lunatic we're looking for.

I can always respect a Billy Joel quote (when I recognize it).

I am a liberal democrat, and in the past worked in the Democratic Party (local level). Obviously, I was very disappointed last night.

Also obviously is that I am certain that this is a big mistake, but democracy makes mistakes. However, democracy is also the cure for mistakes. If this is what the democratic system has judged, then so be it. Democracy only works when the losers concede and lick their wounds for the next contest.

Hopefully, that contest will not come after massive abuses against the rights of many people. I hope that the President-elect was honest and authentic in his victory speech. In the meantime, we must observe what has happened to our nation, and not perpetuate the division in American society. Just like in our games, losers should try to be gracious, and winners magnanimous.

So anyone hear about the #calexit stuff? Aka people not liking that Trump was elected so they want to have California secede from the US. I'm sure it mostly people just saying things because they are upset but, it seems a rather excessive reaction.

Look up La Pen in France. There is a global trend towards secession.

Make of that what you will.
