Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader

By Biohazardboy, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi, I'm belgian, so my english is very bad, i apologize now.

But I want to now if Rogue Trader and D H have the same rules? By "same rules" I mean globaly the same rules (combat, competence, career paths, ...).

We are 7 Dark Heresy's players and we are looking for a game like dark heresy with partialy the same rules to have not to learn too much new rules.

So, can you answer my question about that?

Thanks.

The career options are different, but Dark Heresy players won't have any trouble figuring them out. Especially since the paths don't branch.

The big differences are starships, profit factor and psykers:

- Profit factor is how your acquire new items. Totalling up the modifiers can be annoying, so I made a spreadsheet that does it for me.

- Starships are a completely new gameplay element. The only thing that might trip up your players is that the range brackets for starship guns are different to those of handheld guns.

- The rules for psykers are very different. But they also are much easier to understand that the DH psyker rules. If your using a DH psyker, the easiest option is to have that psyker stay under the DH rules while the astropath uses the RT rules.

There are some other minor differences that mostly consist of DH errata. Nothing that will hurt too much if you ignore them.

Ok, thank you sso much.

Your comment really help me.

If you aren't using the DH errata 2.0 then there are a lot of minor changes. If you are using the 2.0 errata on the support page there aren't many in the basic rules. See above post as it hits the major points. I use the DH creatures book for NPC creatures without much trouble.

Also many weapons are different pattern (model) so a RT hellgun is a lot better than a DH hellgun for example. Last the RT characters are in theory about rank 5 at character creation. A rank 5 DH will have more skills and talents, but much lower stats (unless they have been spending a lot of XP on stats).

There is also a conversion rule on how to upgrade your DH psyker into following the RT pyschic power casting. (found on page 172)

Although to be frank I find the conversion system to be very confusing.
