I bought a used lot and a couple were basic repaints. I said, "COOL!" Didn't affect the price at all. If your repaints are done in a high quality, and even some physical modifications . . . there are buyers that would look at that as a value.
Would repaints affect the resale value of a fleet?
I have posted on the X-wing facebook group for the area saying I am looking for a game at my LGS and the owner of the other place will comment telling me to play at his store instead. I have posted that I was looking for games of 40k at my LGS and he has done the same thing. You may have had a positive experience with the guys there, but community is more important to me than business. I think it is deplorable to try and kill the gaming communities at other stores just to improve yours.
Sounds like simple marketing to me. That's a far cry from trying to kill another business outright.

Agreed, and even still there isn't anything wrong with killing a competing business out right if you aren't doing anything unethical or immoral to do so. It may be frustrating for the consumer, but it certainly doesn't make you a bad business, quite the opposite actually.
I dig that interceptor!
those ships belong in a display case while they wait for future re-use.
This all over. Unless you need the money or the space, why not store them in case your situation improves?

...and 'thirded' - I've always had the attitude with my hobbies that I rarely get rid of anything...my film-camera equipment I only recently let go after 30+yrs as it wasn't being used having been replaced with digital - I'm not even using that much now, but it still takes perfectly good pics, so I will keep it until the bodies die...I still had some modelling supplies from my teens when I started playing x-wing this year, in my fifties, same with books, art-supplies and tools.
It's what lofts, attics, basements, garages and spare-bedrooms are really for

Personally I do not buy pre-painted stuff, especially if it is an entire army/fleet. Just because when gaming you will have comments such as .. wow those look good did you paint them?
Seeing the repaints I would say you can ask for more than the original price.
The ships look good, the paint scheme isn't somethign outrageous and you put work in it, so I think you should start with asking for a high price, you can still lower it later or negotiate.
Personally though, I would say: don't let that guy win. And in a sense, he does if you quit.

Wow! Just took a look and your repaints are good! Definitely some of the nicer ones I've seen! I think you could get people to pay a bit more than actual value for these. It might be worth splitting your collection if some are painted or not.
Yeah, I would keep them, either display them or hold onto them to play in the future. Even if you don't, alternative uses may come up. I had two falcons a while ago, never played a dual falcon list, and my young nephew (3 at the time) really loved trying to play with my "toy spaceships." So I took one of the falcons, took off the radar dish, cut off the guns and made sure nothing else could break off into choking hazards, and gave him a spaceship of his very own. Much better than the $20 (at most) I could have gotten for it.
As for your initial question about reprints and value, that really depends on the player. For example, I personally wouldn't want them at all. It's a nice paint job and all, I'm just not a huge fan of repaints, especially since the official ones end up looking better than most I've seen (my HotR Poe could use some more detail or a wash though). To each their own, really, but I think you could expect standard resale prices for them if that's the route you go.
I am surprised that a new business would try to generate such ill will, I would think they would probably welcome the support! What did they do when the other stores in the community contacted them about their poor business practices?
I'm also confused as to how they were able to steal away a large part of the gaming community... people are in general pretty loyal to a store that treats them right.
Paint them back to stock if they don't sell as is.
I just painted a green defender back to its " in the box" scheme.I can tell you that Vallejo model color"French mirage blue works for imperials and deck tan works for X wings
I personally like the Flash Gordon look to these ships. With that said, I wouldn't shy away from buying them but then again, I wouldn't pay more for them, as the retail paint schemes on these is very good. Sadly that means the ships will sell used for 1/2 to 1/3rd retail and to only someone who really liked them.
Now there are a few really good painters out there that have been selling their repaints above retail price but those have been popular paint schemes like black one or Sabine's TIE, which FFG now has covered. The Flash Gordon style is so niche here, I don't know.
I would say hold on to them and not let the new store turn you off. It is a new store after all and he must do everything he can to build a following. I wouldn't begrudge him for it.
have you tried HotaC or an imperial variant (guessing you are mostly an imperial player)?
customized ships would be worth less in my eyes, unless it's well done. It looks like the latter, so I think you would not need to ask less than you'd ask for an unpainted ship.
If I was on the lookout for good painted ships (I'm a terrible painter myself) and didn't live on the other side of the ocean, I'd be interested in the Tie fighters/interceptors, could always use more for HotaC. But the others aren't exactly my style (although they are well done).
It's a bit like the customized cards in Magic: the Gathering: well done artwork on cards would make them just as valuable (unless they're from Alpha/Beta/Unlimited or other ancient set), but with a lousy paintjob people would rate it 'poor'/'played'.
Regarding selling or not:
How much do you think it's worth and do you consider it to be a waste of money to let it sit around for a while, until you find a new group?
in other words: how much money would you 'lose' if x-wing falls out of grace and noone is buying it anymore
And if that's the case: what would happen if it starts to become popular again in 20-ish years as a Vintage game? (people pay hefty prices now for old board games from the 80's)
Based on your signature, it doesn't seem that big of a collection, so I'd just store it for a while.
Personally I've got a nice (still growing collection) and I don't intend on selling it ever. Why?
1. I bought all ships from money I earned through selling other stuff (mainly Magic-cards, books etc) or I received them as birthday/xmas gifts, so this hobby doesn't really cost me much
2. It would be super cool to play this game when my 5yr old and 2month old boys are in their teens
3. I'd probably create & play huge Solo-campaigns when they're on their own and I got the time & space to leave a game-in progress as it is on the table (in the attic/basement) and continue at leisure
These are high quality repaints and I don't think it would adversely affect the sale price. They are of a pleasing colour scheme for imperial ships, so I think you could ask what you thought was appropriate. I paint like an old chicken with Parkinson's, so I appreciate well painted models, no matter the game. On a side note, I have always wanted to do a Kath Scarlett but I don't want it to be shiesen.
Also! It depends how much you need/want them gone. Put a price on them and I sure you will get bites.
Where are you located as a matter of interest?
Depends on the quality and nature of the scheme.
If your whole fleet is hello kitty themed you'dd be looking at a negative modifier.
If some of your ships are touched up, improved or scheme swapped (First order interceptors for example) you can sell those at 120% price or so, higher if the quality is good.
Ships with totally unique schemes could fetch you up to 150% price depending on their quality.
These numbers are accounting for the fact that the ships are unboxed and used.
My scum fleet has custom paint jobs to represent their origin as well as some unique characters, I´dd sell it at 130% of its original value.
