Chopper + Rey, looking for some feedback

By Panda Warlord, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Trying to come up with a list using the new Falcon, so far got the following...

“Chopper” [Accuracy Corrector, Autoblaster Turret, Hera Syndulla, "Zeb" Orrelios] (44)

Rey [Expert Handling, Kyle Katarn, Kanan Jarrus, Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version)] (54)

Which leaves 2 points floating, but a lot of good options I'm torn between. A Seismic Torpedo can create some more room to work. Ion Projector or Anti Pursuit Laser on Chopper makes him more dangerous to bump. Alternatively Chopper may be over specialised in knife fighting and swapping Zeb for Ezra makes that 4 dice primary attack more effective when he has a big pile of stress, though lack of re-rolls is still a problem.

Alternatively a modification or elicit on Rey. Nothing really jumps out. Glitterstim is normally a safe option but since she shouldn't have too much trouble with getting a focus or two it seems a bit of a waste.

Alternatively any other feedback is welcome.

I've been toying with this, tried it once with VI insted of Expert Handling on Rey, but it worked very well.

Isn't FCS better than AC? You get a TL which can be used on both primary and ABT and Ezra convers an eye to a crit

Rey and Rebel (99)
Lothal Rebel — VCX-100 35
Fire-Control System 2
Autoblaster Turret 2
Hera Syndulla 1
Ezra Bridger 3
Ship Total: 43

Rey — YT-1300 45
Expert Handling 2
Kanan Jarrus 3
Finn 5
Millennium Falcon (TFA) 1
Ship Total: 56

I always take FCS if I have docked shuttle as the free TLs for the double tap are just too good to pass up. I can see the appeal of AC if you have ABT but the problem is that it does nothing for the Primaries unless you roll really badly (and then you would rather have TLs anyway).

I think I would rather try and scrape together another 2 points and replace Expert Handling with VI and EU. There are a lot of PS8 Aces at the moment and both Soontir and Dengar are not going anywhere in a hurry. This means PS10 is a great place to be and being able to reposition after these big threats are done can make all the difference.

Thanks for the feedback!

FCS vs. AC, I think both have merit and will have to try it out. My concern with both is that it's over-specialising vs. under-specialising. AC work better with ABT (they literally guarantee the perfect role with no action) and they work every shot. FCS with Ezra clearly make the forward arc better if you can focus a target but that combo is worse on ABT.

As for Expert Handling, the repositioning is nice but that wasn't the main reason for it. As far as I could figure it's the cheapest way for Rey to be able to stress herself, while doing something vaguely useful and not turning around. The Kanan, Kyle, super beard bros. combo with Rey has a lot of potential but I don't think the title alone is a versatile enough source of "controlled" stress. VI is very tempting, with that duo I was looking at Smuggling Compartment -> Slicer Tools + Experimental interface but that seems a bit too unreliable as well as costing more points.

Quick update: After a bit of testing I was underwhelmed at the knife fighting Chopper. I'm trying out Lotharl Rebel: FCS, Finn, Ezra and it seems a better compliment to Rey who works well in close. But the Kanan/Kyle/Expert Handling combo on Rey is working out ridiculously well.

It seems odd to try to force the use of Kyle with something that takes an action to use. You might as well have just taken a focus action and not bothered with the stress.

If you use Expert Handling in round one, you could clear that stress with Kanan while using the MF title the second round and get a focus token for doing so. However, you aren't getting to perform an action. It seems that the reason to take Kanan and Kyle with the new Falcon title is to pull the three S-Loop, clear the stress with Kanan, receive the focus from Kyle, and then still have your action available.

It's a fair point. So far I've found it takes an action where the barrel role is useful itself or in a turn when your action has little other value. It's kind of hard to start an engage with a sloop so you want the stress going in for the free focus. I guess I could do the initial turns to stress rey with a maneuver and purposely not clear it. But you run into a similar problem as soon as you clear that stress.

You are right doing both, a barrel role and sloop in consecutive turns isn't ideal but it's not exactly bad either. The main reason to pull the sloop is to get something in arc, since Rey has a focus that leaves the other actions less valuable. Alternatively If the sloop isn't going to get something in arc, don't do it and TL instead. As long as that barrel role did something useful the turn before you are pretty much guaranteed to come out ahead on actions.

But that kind of kicks up another concern with this build for me; Rey really needs that focus on her attack but if you aren't spending her action for the focus, you might as well target lock rendering her ability moot and you don't even have to worry about arc much. In which case why not replace Rey with another pilot, maybe OG Chewbacca or drop kyle.

So yeah, I've got a few concerns, so far though I've been happy enough to keep trying it.
