Where do your usernames come from?

By Darth Tam, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Mine is related to my Advanced Squad Leader neverending love. That tiny dots in the middle of each hex... Check Line of Sight between that Pak 88 and that halftrack fully loaded... Sweat.

My name is Tony... and I'm 6'6"

I'm also not very creative....

When I first signed up to a forum 20-odd years ago there way a copy of the '90s remake of space invaders sat near my chair. And the rest is history.

Mine couldn't be more generic as I can never think of a good handle until recently when someone called me Kylo Ben.......can you change names?

can you change names?

Not really... I mean you could create a new account, but you can't change your screen name.

Those are my first two initials, followed by my last name.

I use it because X-Wing is not just an online thing, like some games, it's also a thing you do with people you meet in real life.

I use my real name so I can't say crazy or rude **** anonymously. It's a reminder to myself that I'm accountable for the things I say to people, even if it's not face to face. I want anybody who meets me at a big event someday to be able to recognize the name and say "hi", if they're so inclined.

Good times.

Too easy. Deathrain was taken, so I took something else that sounded ridiculous for a forum-username. Deathrain was my favourite pilot at the time I joined. Started using the name in all places which are Star Wars related.

Mad- my initials, Mandolorian I like Mandalorians (slight spelling difference is to avoid getting sued by micky mouse [jk it was dyslexia and i just stuck with it])

Robotech!! or Macross or Makurosu

I'm a roller derby ref, Its my roller derby name.

Rear Admiral lower or upper?

When I was in early college, I used to play a lot of pool, especially during the summer months when I had a lot of free time. There was an arcade along the strip that my friends and I used to hang out at during the day. In the back, near the pool table, there was a pinball machine that was themed around a carnival game. It would spout out, "Hey you! You with the face!" a little too often if you spent a long time there. It just got lodged in my brain.

So....in the mid to late 90's I worked in IT. I was one of the first guys out there to get an email address and all that (that was tied to an IBM mainframe account). I finally got a private one due to a friend of a friend owning an ISP back in the early days of the internet getting big. It was called netscum.net. I got an email account through them and got to pick my handle. I picked "heyyou"@netscum.net. I loved it, but eventually this ISP went down. So, I was forced to go to hotmail. heyyou was taken, but I probably could've gotten it if I went there first as I was one of early guys out there. So...I had to pick something different. I went with my last name as there are not that many Chadwicks around. Hey....Chadwick! It just became my online handle for everything these days.

The funny thing is is that everyone thinks it's my first name. I get guys on games like Battlefront that are asking me if I'm their friend with first name Chadwick when they see me. Sorry....last name Chadwick. Then, there are people at work who keep calling me Chad. I don't really mind as my memory is like a fish. I can't recall anyone's name unless I say it almost every day for 2 years. :)

Hey you! You with the face! Great topic!

Norym is my name backwards, Myron. Been using is for several years in a lot of places, if it was taken then I am Norym3.

My username is actually my handle I've been using since 1995 on my ships computers. I've been using it as my log on handle ever since. Always all lower case.

It's a fusion of my name and Speed Racers name, as his friends always called him Speed. And since Speed Racer was my first favorite cartoon it seemed appropriate.

So, markspeed.

Hey you! You with the face! Great topic!

Cool story! This is the type of thing i was looking forward to. And thanks for that!

Space Cadet, not real creative really! I just couldn't think off anything else. Just a space noob.

Thanks! It was really fun to remember it. I even texted one of my buddies who I used to play with. I just said "Hey you! You with the face!".

There was another game nearby: Contra. The intro had two characters. One in a Schwartineger voice would say, "What is dis place...?" The other voice was messed up and would response in a really high, chipper voice "Keep your eyes peeled!" It was hysterical.

First initial of my first name, Ryan, and the first part of my long polish last name. Mostly given the nickname "Stan" from there being another Ryan in my groups of friends.

Mine is a the name that Ed Exley gave to the man that killed his father and was never caught. It was the turning point in the film when Spacey's character said it, revealing the true bad guy. Man L.A. Confidential is a good film.

Star Wars fighter fanatic. So my alias on an old Internet chat began as Janson. Unfortunately this was the 90s and I was using a 14.4 modem. Often I'd get bogged down in a lag wave so Major Lag was just as often my nickname. Over time I combined them.

My family is Serbian and all of my usernames on the inter webs have to do with something Serbian. Zora is my dogs name. In Serbian, it roughly means "dawn" and we got her on Jan 1st, the "dawn" of a new year.

After clone wars cartoon had a character named Ziro the Hutt, I just swapped out a letter, and boom...Zorathehutt was born

I liked the sheep avatar.

A looooong long time ago, there was a game called AirQuake. It pretty much took the original Quake game and turned it into a flight game. Played it to death over ye olde dial up modem. Chose that as a name with my initials at the end when 'flyboy' was already taken.

A long long time ago I got this game:

It became and still is my favorite game of all time. AOL was brand new and I needed a username so I took Worms. Signing into forums and whatnot I discovered Worms was usually taken, so I started using Wurms and Wurms2, and have since littered the internet with 20+ years of posts from Wurms.

A lot of people think I play Magic, cause I guess they have a lot of wurm creatures:

I used to play Worms with my roommate back in the day! It was a lot of fun. I thought I was good, but man, he was really good.
