Where do your usernames come from?

By Darth Tam, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I've seen some pretty glorious usernames on these forums and I sometimes wonder why they exist.

I'll start with mine. I'm known for having a bit of a mean streak. So, my best friend's dad, who is a hilarious guy, decided i could be a Sith Lord if i wanted to. So, he started calling me Darth Tam. I'm still under contract with him to build a death ray.

Some of the usernames on this forum are self-explanatory (that's you, Fickle) but others are a mystery. One i wonder about is PGS, but he is banned.

Anyways i look forward to seeing your answers.

I guess, with PGS, he was rather good or obsessed with Mario for a while, way back when.

As for me, I took this nick way back in 2003 (long before that atrocious film) on another forum and it's stuck ever since. He struck a chord. And I liked his simple coat of arms.

I have done by Dark Jedi since AOL dial up (circa 1997). Finally graduated to a Sith Lord around 2002.

Vilgore

I grew up in Jacksonville Fl. Goth kid into Horror, Vore and Gore

So I blended those things into Vilgore.

Shortened version of a nickname given to me by my best friend's dad roughly 16 years ago. Super Duper CC. It stuck!

Not only is it tattooed on my leg but it is also partly used for my website's name.

I find catchy slogans infuriatingly stupid. They work, or people wouldn't use them. So our brains really are dumb enough to think a catchy phrase=a good product. It's good to remind myself how gullible we all are at a fundamental level. I always make usernames that are some business phrase. HewenttoJared or this one or ThePausethatRefreshes.

Mine is from my 40K days (and my moving away from CiaranT to a more anonymous moniker) the 55 is just cause taulover was already taken (i had about 5K worth of Tau at one stage as well)

I also sometimes go by KiwiAvenger on other forums and sites following on from my battlefield 1942 handle (i'm part Kiwi and have relatives over there so made sense at the time)

Mine is a little bit odd and it seems to throw people.

Long, long ago in a mIRC chat room now defunct... I went by Vanor, this was so long ago that sometime after I started hanging out there we started sharing invites to this new thing called gmail... Then I started playing on this NeverWinter Nights persistent world and after a while became a DM on it... So I started going by VanorDM as my DM character and just Vanor as my normal user name...

But over time Vanor has been taken in a lot of places so I just started using the DM name when Vanor won't work.

We used to raise budgerigars when I was in middle school. For an assignment, I had to write a poem about something. I made a poem about a giant budgerigar called a budgernaut. Then my twin brother created parakitor (combination of terminator and parakeet) as a counterpart. So our online aliases have long since been Budgernaut and Parakitor. I believe those were our screen names back when the internet was first put into residential homes.

Vineheart was the surname of a medieval story i was writing in highschool, Sir Marcus Vineheart. Course i never got anywhere with it because drawn out plots are difficult to write lol but the surname stuck in my head for some reason. ive used it as my gamertag since i was 16, and im 28.

First of all, I mostly play the Imperial side of the X-Wing game.

Secondly, because I find most of the "Darth" names stupid.

Darth Vader = he's the Dad (if you want cool sounding Imperial names, use the Dutch language)

Darth Sidious = he's working behind the scenes

Darth Tyrannus = he wants to be a tyrant (or he has short forelimbs?)

Darth Maul = beats people up

Darth Plagueis = he'll unleash a plague on the galaxy

So, I went for dumb but cutesy.

My entire extended family raised budgies when I was younger. You never really leave that vitamin E smell behind. Where did you sell them?

Mostly at the local swap-meet. I'm not sure, though. My job was just to get the babies used to being held by people. I never went with my parents to sell them. I do remember putting the little ID bands around their ankles when they were really young.

I'm really bad with inventing names, so I just use my initials :P

Funnily enough, this was my callsign in X-Wing Alliance's multiplayer. FTS was the squadron, Gecko was the pilot name.

I have always liked the name "Bojangles" and think I first used it online with SWG in 2003 (maybe also in E&B, don't exactly recall) and have used it ever since.

I beg to differ. :P .

Ik ook ;)

Was an old Warcraft shadowpriest I used to play.

Obsessed with Tron.

The 'fox' stands for Fox McCloud from Star Fox. First video game i ever played and has been a favorite of mine ever since. The 4 and 100 on the other hand...no reason. Just random numbers.

When I was a delivery driver for a glass company, a fellow driver decided that rubberduck should be my handle over the radio. I can only assume he got the idea from the C.W. McCall song "convoy". Anyway the name stuck so there it is.

Mine is kinda self explanatory - "4x" cuz I use to do a lot of off roading/Rock Crawling and "holic" because it had been somewhat of an addiction.

This song:

I'm just a jerk but a hero's what I wannabe.

Yeah.

Oh yeah.
