The solution to all your Zuckuss/Palpatine/etc problems...

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Well, I don't think we would be having this discussion if not for Dengaroo winning Worlds, but whatever I guess.

What is in my opinion the most broken, if you will, thing about Zuckuss is his price. For only a single point you get an ability that can be used any number of times per turn for basically free and after your opponent rolls his defense dice. Now looking at the other Scum thing that re-rolls defense dice, R4-B11, he has a 3 point price AND needs a TL to work.

In my opinion Zuckuss would either need to be many more points, like 5 or even 6-7 or have more restrictions, like a TL on the target which also indirectly hits Manaroo's ability since you will need to be close so you can TL + focus Dengar if you want to use Zuckuss. Another thing you could do with Zuckuss could be to have his ability mandatory to activate for all defense dice. So basically if you chose to use Zuckuss, your opponent would re-roll all his dice, not just the ones you want.

At 5 points you've got a card that is still going fit into a Dengaroo build (with a few less toys for Manaroo and a smaller initiative bid) but end up with a card that is ridiculously overpriced to use on any other ship.

But it's not just 1pt, it's not being able to Barrel Roll, losing all your red dice, and being forced to take Manaroo to get tokens. So what it the real cost, far more than 1pt.

I am talking about his base price in relation to what he gives you. Saying that Zuckuss is not under-costed at 1 point because you need Manaroo is like saying that Palp is over-costed because you also need a shuttle to fly him in. (but let's not go into the Palp subject again... :P ).

Also there is the party bus that uses Zuckuss, which does not need Manaroo to function.

I don't think there other ships apart from Dengar or the party bus which use Zuckuss TBH... (at least on the regular). And both those ships could do with a smaller initiative bid and less toys on Manaroo is always a nice thing.

This is a cool idea. Kudos. Maybe also prevent target locks on ships in the 'jam' zone?

Are the FFG forums just going to be full of "the fix for <x>" threads for a week after Worlds? Ugh...I might as well stay away then.

It is very possible.

But we knew regardless of how the TIE Defender and Palpatine placed people would be calling for their nerf; add that to the conversation whomever actually won. These should be a hot topic of nerf, fix, buff, refix, renerf, etc. for a while. But that is the game X-Wing.

When listening to your playerbase

If one thing is "broken", your game has a problem.

If "everything" is "broken", your game is balanced.

If no one is complaining, there is no passion in your playerbase and your game has a serious problem.

I agree, what would you expect to see in a forum setting other then passionate discussion about how the game could improve/change?

Games(or the meta within them) have to evolve and change in order to keep its player base invested. Sometimes FFG steps too far with point cost such as the JM5K and need to reign it in a bit which may have changed strats going into worlds. If not for discussions and publicly posted tournament results it may not have changed at all.

Keep in mind that the forum has sub topics to browse as well if these types of threads aren't your thing.

Edit on topic: it sounds like a cool idea but point cost and duration would have to be tested of course. I think that it should only last one round at 0 points. It would make for a game changing turn but give your opponent a chance to recover outside of not flying on that part of the play area.

Interesting thought. Thematic, certainly. Not sure if too complicated, at that point. CERTAINLY it would need a point cost increase if it did that, too.

I like how it breaks up communications between ships, very flavourful.

Yup, yet it leaves everyone 'within' a ship free to use its native abilities.

And that it feels a bit like a terrain-sort-of-effect...I mean, more terrain is never bad, right?

Are they ever anything else? I mean, there's GUNBOAT and f5ing for previews too I guess.

Yes they are. I usually have a derth of threads to waste my time with. Not this week, though...

Why would a communications scrambler affect the Force powers of someone as powerful as the Emperor?

I have got the solution. Nerf every ship and card that was in the top 32. Every year. Problem solved. People would not know what to cry about for weeks.

You underestimate the X-Wing forum's ability to always have something to whine about.

Because it's scrambling communications with SO MUCH NOISE that he gets distracted. Probably playing something by Rick Astley or something.

Also: since it's jamming the sensors, too, it's difficult for the Emperor to get a read on what the situation is to know how to best use his abilities.

Also: Probably ysalamiri are onboard the beacons, too. Because they are totally still a thing. Totally.
