X-wing Title Card Contest

By AwesomeJedi, in X-Wing

Okay folks, maybe instead of trying to make a title to fix the T-65 perhaps you should be looking at a set of unique titles like Red 5 or Red 2 to make X-wing Aces instead of fixing the rookie pilot.

So going with movie ships we got

  • Red Leader (Wes)
  • Red 2 (Wedge)
  • Red 3 (Biggs)
  • Red 5 (Luke)
  • Red 6 (Jek)
  • Red 10

Some examples I jsut cobbled together (looking more for theme than ballance)

  • Red 5

If you equipped a Torpedo Secondary weapon reduce the cost by 2.

0 points

  • Red 2

If an enemy ship is inside your firing arc you may perform a free boost or barrel roll

2 points

I guess it's over. Here's the results: Strike Foils won.

Hey that's mine. I almost forgot about this contest.

The thing I don't like about S-foil solutions is that we don't see the X-wings in the movies flapping their wings around during combat. They pop em' open when they're about to dogfight and leave them there. Yes, yes I know that closing your S-foils in some video games gave you a speed boost, but it just doesn't match the canonical films.

I think I remember Poe doing it when he entered Starkiller Base.

X Wings flapping their wings all over the place is silly. Very silly.

I also don't like the idea of using unique titles to make the X Wing great again, that makes it very difficult to play larger games with them (since it's very hard to balance unique titles for a range of points values and you also just plain run out of good titles) but importantly it makes it hard for people like me who imagine their pilots and squads as real people. Always using the same pilots because they're the only good ones adds another of abstraction which detracts from the Star Wars feeling IMO. A title fix should follow the common trend of the other titles and be something generic like a pattern or model number, or a feature of the ship. Something generic.

I think I remember Poe doing it when he entered Starkiller Base.

True, but he only did it to fit through a narrow gap. X Wing doesn't feature any narrow gaps like that. And doing it certainly didn't give him a dogfighting boost or we would have seen all the X Wings doing it during the battle in the skys above Takodana or Starkiller.

Pigeon-wings are stupid. Those wings are open during combat, period.

I don't get the personal investment against S-foils in any form.

It's an established thing they can do in the canon, both in games and movies.

It's an unused design space.

It's for a ship that needs an update.

Why not use it?

Just seems like a silly thing to care about.

A use for the most unused slot in the game. Less mass on the ship to allow better maneuverability.

A second that I like on both the T65 and the e-wing. Open up space to allow for extra electronics.

There's lots of unused design space.

Flapping X Wings is stupid.

sorry to be the one to break it to you naysayers,

but "wing flapping" is already in the game.

Radarman5 won fair and square, do be such sore losers.

That wording doesn't work, as you are using your torpedo slot with this card. So removing it means you can't take this card. Card paradox lol

My idea for an X-Wing title is:

YRIDloF.jpg

Its called replace if you notice. You replace the torpedo with the tech, wording is fine.

Except if you replace the icon you can no longer equip the card.

You might as well just have the card say 'gain a tech slot', and it would work just as well.

Yeah you've created the card version of 'Go back in time to stop an event, therefore you never needed to go back because the event never happened' head-exploder lol

You have a torp slot, you put this card in it, this card removes that slot, so you can't put this card in it :P

I hadn't noticed but he's right. You don't have a torpedo slot to replace if your only one was use to equip the card.

I like the General idea but some things.... Red Leader is not Wes that is Garven. Next Red 2 needs a timing trigger, start of activation, before/after maneuver, start of combat ect. Now for the positive I really like this idea! The X-Wing is a very versatile ship with a huge pilot variety. Giving it lots of options seems a grand idea to me!
