Cos im a Scyk Guy!

By Sonikgav, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Determined to make a go of the M3-A since the title buff so figured id post a few options.

List A (100 points)

Serissu - VI, Title, Tractor Beam

Tansari Vet - Fearlessness, Title, Autoblaster

Tansari Vet - Fearlessness, Title, Autoblaster

Tansari Vet - Trick Shot, Title, Heavy Laser Cannon

Serissu shoots before most to hopefully interfere with firing arcs and pull things closer in to those R1 Hammers, while the HLC rains down on anything trying to keep its distance.

List B (99 points)

Serissu - Atanni Mindlink, Title, Tractor Beam

Tansari Vet - Atanni Mindlink, Title, Mangler Cannon

Tansari Vet - Atanni Mindlink, Title, Mangler Cannon

Tansari Vet - Atanni Mindlink, Title, Heavy Laser Cannon

Serissu is more or less the same just slightly lower PS, her role doesn't change and neither does the Heavy Cannon. This one is just less reliant on the R1 but does far less damage. Addition of the Mindlink however adds some nice action economy with a small Initiative bid.

Thoughts welcome.

List B for sure.

And it doesn't do 'far less damage'. It just doesn't do as much damage at range 1. However, it deals considerably more damage at range 2 or 3. And the range 2 & 3 bands are considerably larger than the range 1 band (therefore, the opportunities to deal more damage will be much greater than the first list).

Having said all that, its not easy to fly 4 mindlink ships with forward-facing arcs. You are going to run into difficulties keeping them all pointed at the enemy. It would be a good idea to drop one of the scyks for either manaroo or palob.

This, for example, would be easier to fly:

Serissu w/ mindlink, title & tractor beam = 24

2 TPVs w/ mindlink, title & manglers = 24 x 2

Palob w/ mindlink, autoblaster turret & engine = 27

99

I think ill test list A for a while (since i have it playable now) and once ive bought the Jump Masters for the Mindlinks ill start testing list B.

I've been playing 2scyks, a hwk and a Z95 for quite some games by now and really enjoy it. Attani Mindlinkis awesome.

The exact list is:

Kaa'to Leachos, AM, Thread tracers, chips

TPV, AM, Title, HLC

TPV, AM, Title, Mangler

Torkil, TLT, Dengar, Cloak, Stygium

I'm 5-1 by now, and having lots of fun.

Keep up the scyks!

I'm trying to work out a list with Laetin A'shera as I like his pilot ability. I'm thinking giving him HLC, Stealth Device and Title for 30 points, and support from Manaroo.

Laetin to take an evade action (so 4 dice plus an evade, and an extra evade for every missed attack) and Manaroo to give them a focus token.

Any ideas? He really suffers from no Pilot talent though..

EDIT

Just playing around with:

Laetin A'Shera + HLC + Stealth + Title

Manaroo + PTL + Gonk + Unhinged + Engine

Kavil + VI + AutoBlaster + Unhinged + Engine

99 points

My one concern with Serissu is this:

Attani Mindlink's one downside is stress management when it comes to red moves. Hence, you want to be coming at your opponent in a lose pack, approaching from all directions - so that the bulk of your squad only needs hard turns, not Koiogran turns, to pursue an opponent. This is pretty much exactly the reverse of what Serissu's ability wants you to do (come in in a range 1 'bait ball').

I'd probably rather have someone else - a Tansarii veteran and have a few extra points of kit in the squad, or else Kaa'To Leeachos (who works rather well in a mindlink squad) with a missile of some kind.

Had one more idea to try and develop this based on feedback.

Laetin A'Shera - Heavy Scyk, Tractor Beam

Tansari Veteran - Heavy Scyk, Mangler Cannon, Outmaneuver

Tansari Veteran - Heavy Scyk, Mangler Cannon, Outmaneuver

Tansari Veteran - Heavy Scyk, Mangler Cannon, Outmaneuver

So lose the HLC but 3x Manglers with potentially -2 vs their targets Agility should make up for this. If flown in a more expansive fashion i should be able to get 2 minimum coming in out of arc.

Has anybody tried this?

Tansarii Point Veteran (17)
Fearlessness (1)
Autoblaster (5)
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) (2)

Likely not competitive in the least, but could make for a very entertaining match.

Yeah i looked at this but the reliance on R1 was tricky. You can see List 1 right at the top has 2 of these but with a Long Range support from the HLC and Serissu supporting them going in. Absolutely brutal if you set up a decent block and get 2 or 3 into range but very easy to outfly.

Played a little local tournament tonight with the Mangler/Outmaneuver list.

Turns out, they REALLY like going after big ships. One of these guys can be split off and sent off after Manaroo and cause all kinds of trouble, and anything susceptible to crits like Interceptors and Fang Fighters. What they dont like are TLT K-Wings and Ace's that can take a hit.

Part of it was down to some bad piloting but a Miranda/Biggs/Jake list tore me apart in 4 turns for no returned damage, the game after i table Manaroo, Fenn and Old Teroch.

Still i take a bit of pride going 2-2 in a room full of people practicing for regionals, and may very well take this list just for the hell of it. I usually land around the bottom half of the table anyway so why not have some fun.
