X-Wing Ships not in Armada - Liklihood of future inclusion

By GrandAdmiralCrunch, in Star Wars: Armada

There are currently 19 ships that have been released for X-Wing that have not made their way to Armada:

Scum Y-Wing

Scum Z-95

M3-A Scyk

Starviper

K-Wing

TIE Punisher

Kihraxz

Inquisitor's TIE

MIst Hunter

T-70 X-Wing

TIE FO

ARC-170

TIE SF

Protectorate Fighter

Sabine's TIE

U-Wing

Upsilon Shuttle

TIE Stalker

Quad Jumper

Not likely:

Scum Y-Wing, Scum Z-95, Sabine's TIE

We're nowhere near the point where we need to see cross faction fighters. If they ever release a Scum Faction, we might see the scum versions, Just don't hold your breath.

Possible (Scum):

M3-A Scyk, Starviper, Kihraxz, Mist Hunter, Protectorate Fighter, Quad-Jumper

These would fit best in a Scum faction, but we might see them flying with rebels. The empire has way to many TIE variants to need most of this Scum.

Possible (TFA):

T-70 X-Wing, TIE FO, TIE SF, Upsilon Shuttle

These look way to close to existing fighters to warrant new models, The Upsilon being the exception. Even it could be represented by new cards with TFA artwork.

Most Likely:

K-Wing, TIE Punisher, Inquisitor's TIE, ARC-170, U-Wing, TIE Stalker

It's and eclectic bunch, but they all have a distinct look.

Not a single ship in that list technically

Sorry,it's been a long cr@ppy day after an even worse weekend and I'm feeling freading pedantic!

Seriously though, what would any of those actally add to what is predominantly a fleet element / "ship of the line" game

I imagine we'll see sequel trilogy fighters down the road, especially if Episodes VIII and IX involve large fleet combat with new capital ships.

After wave 5, I'd gladly never see another class of fighter. CC is the way to go from now on for squadrons.

I am not sure what carbon copy has to do with more squadrons. Are you saying that you only want more of the squadrons that we already have? Would that include new special pilots?

I assume he meant the new correlian conflict expansion. So new squadron cards but no new fighter models.

I have nothing new to contribute to a Scum faction speculation thread, but I'll step in anyway...

Scum faction seems highly unlikely to me.

  1. From FFG precedent, Scum is limited to pirates, bounty hunters, and various Outer Rim goons without much military hardware. Forget about Hutt ships or CSA.
  2. In all of X-Wing's run, Scum hasn't even gotten an Epic (corvette-sized) ship, though the players ask for it all the time. That's how thin the possibilities are, even for a little guy like that. Never mind a mid-sized or larger slugger that could contend with a Star Destroyer.
  3. Armada doesn't get as many releases as X-Wing. To catch up a Scum faction on all the waves that Rebels and Imperials have had would be extremely difficult.

What they could definitely do is some kind of special campaign box, like the Corellian Conflict. "Oh no, a pirate baron has united the disparate Scum factions of the Outer Rim into a powerful force. Gather your task force and end this threat." The campaign could pit Rebel and/or Imperial players in an asymmetric war against hodge-podge Scum forces, controlled by another side. New mechanics could be introduced for the campaign for Scum to commandeer or salvage enemy wrecks and add them to their fleet for future battles, meaning that by the end of the game your fallen Rebel and Imperial ships can make up a tougher Scum enemy. Maybe the Scum faction could be defined as: Any non-unique squadron from the Rogues and Villains expansion, any of the Imperial unique squadrons from the Rogues and Villains faction, non-unique Z-95 Headhunters from the Rebel Fighter Squadrons II expansion, a new Scum Y-Wing squadron, and new unique squadrons contained in the expansion for the aforementioned squadrons. Perhaps it could even include some new squadrons too, the kind everyone's looking for: Scyks, Kihraxz, Mist Hunter, Protectorate Fighter, Starviper. Scum ships could start as something like a few transport flotillas and stolen CR-90s, with plenty of fighters, and then grow bigger based on what they capture from the opposition.

Then, when it's all done, a few of the game components could be tournament-legal. Maybe the new squadrons could be given limited cross-factional allowance, like in Imperial Assault when you use Temporary Alliance (i.e., a Scum-friendly commander or officer who lets you take a certain number?). That's what I'd like to see.

Thank you, that makes a lot more sense. This is one of the things that drive me nuts, when people are to lazy to say what they mean and so abbreviate things, but end up using abbreviations that mean other things. Maybe it is just me but calling it one thing in your local group where everyone knows what you are talking about is one thing. For example in my local group we call it the campaign expansion. So in my group if I am talking about the campaign everyone knows what I was talking about, but on here how many would know I am not talking about a home brewed campaign?

I think I will just paint up a Sabine's Tie fighter and add it to a multi stand on the base of my wave 5 Ghost model. I think Mel does a Phantom model too.

I know the feeling, CDAT! ;)

I'd expect to see the movie tie-in squadrons at some point with other stuff mentioned as unlikely. I would love to see Sabine's tie or ships like that to just be in something like a campaign set rather than having an individual release.
