Force Heal/Harm on Droids

By masterslayer321a, in Game Masters

First question can Force Heal/Harm be used on Droids nothing I read in the book says it can't and all Heal/Harm says is the target must be living and when I read the Droid Trait it doesn't say Droids are not alive.

Also this is just something I would like peoples thoughts on one of my players brought up using Heal/Harm on Droids cause he thought that the upgrades that used Medicine in some way should be Mechanics if using it on a Droid now I'm perfectly happy to go with that as that makes sense to me as well.

Thank you all for your responses.

No, it says it heals wounds on "living creatures", so no, it is not meant to be used on droids. It also references the cap from stimpacks, also not to be used on droids, so obviously it is not meant for droids.

The new book, Endless Vigil , has Force Manipulate, which can essentially act like Force Heal for droids.

Yeah, Heal/Harm is pretty clear that it only works on living things, which droids (while sentient) don't qualify as.

As for Droids not being listed as "alive"... can Twi'leks blink? The rules don't say anything about Twi'leks having the ability to blink, much less Humans or Zabraks or Ithorians or Mon Cal, and yet it's generally presumed that those species can indeed blink. Since a droid is a walking, talking machine, it's presumed the reader is sensible enough to recognize that a droid doesn't qualify as a "living" being, and thus no need to state the patently obvious fact that they're not "alive" in the biological sense, being made of metal, plastic, and wires.

Also droids are immune to force powers

Also droids are immune to force powers

They are only immune to force powers which affect the mind. Everything else you can use on droids. E.g. the move power, which a certain Luke Skywalker used on some kind of outdated protocol droid to impress the native inhabitants on some forrest moon of Endor. ;)

Heal/harm is the only other exception (I think) apart from the mind-altering powers which doesn't work on droids since it effects the life-force of the target. Protect/unleash on the other hand should work, as droids should be affected by force lightning just like everyone else.

May the Restraining Bolts be with you!

Fred :)

My bad, that is all true

thank you all for your answers I truly do appreciate them personally I think Heal/Harm or at least the Harm side of it could still work on Droids if you tweak the explanation of it a bit like have you use the force to damage the Droids programing or something but if there is something that is about to come out that is pretty much Heal/Harm for Droids then I'm not gonna bother home brewing Heal/Harm to affect Droids as if I'm just patient I wont need to.
