Are we relaxing on the "2 tools" at 1 time rule?

I never understood why the rule against two tools is implemented anyway.

It's not like you are making an illegal move by using two tools. Using two tools expedites game play, and if both competitors are allowed to use two tools, how can there be a fuss?

Using two tools expedites game play

Because it often doesn't. It often results in 2-3 times the unnecessary measurements.

Yea I agree. Instead of using 1 tool to take measurements, 2 tools are used, so I can see multiple measurements being taken to determine the "best course of action". I think we need a strict ruling on this that leaves no wiggle room in favor of more tools, or 1 tool that doesn't allow fingers as place holders.

I have more of a problem with the multitude of individual length measuring devices in play these days. I mean, I'm all about folks making a dime, and I love the look of just about all the 3rd party stuff out there, but I have had folks show up with pre-cut wooden dowels to lamented cardboard. It took longer to confirm the length on those things then it did to place the fleets.

Don't get me wrong, I use one of these also (the length 1 acrylic from corsec Engineering, awesome ruler) but i cringe when I see my opponent dump a whole pencil case of plastic onto the table....

Haha that's actually pretty funny. Never thought about cutting dowels, I'm sure it is easier to get in and out of a mess of squads since it is thinner.

I lament the cardboard too. That's why I bring my store-champ acrylics.

And, yes, I've cut a number of them down to size, so I also have the pencil case of plastic. Nobody has ever complained, or insisted on measuring them. I guess they're in their rights to challenge them. It just hasn't happened to me yet.
