Corran in the Future

By Delta Sigma, in X-Wing

As a guy who loves flying Corran, I'm concerned for him with Kylo Ren coming out. Ren's ability to force Damage Cockpit onto aces on a crit is powerful enough that people will look to include him in a list (probably with Chiraneau to begin with), but with 2 Hull Corran's just going to get knock out from full health thanks to a through-shield Direct Hit.

So what do you guys think, will Corran need to rivet on some extra hull going forward at the expense of no EU? Am I overestimating the Power of the Dark Side?

Can't Direct Hit with Kylo, Pilot crits only.

I thought BMST was the end of Corran, but apparently that is not the case. We'll see, but I doubt Kylo is either.

Haha, yep. That'll teach me not to read the card immediately before posting.

Still pretty rough on 2-Hull ships, but not 40+ points instantly down the drain.

I think with Rebels getting access to Scum's BMST, and Imperials getting Kylo Ren, we are not going to be fearing the Rebel Regen as much as in the past, as there will be ways to push damage onto hull.

Wampa loves Corran.

Corran Horn is X-Wing Jesus, only his death and resurrection has happened multiple times. I reckon he'll always have a place in the meta.

Kylo is awful news for the green jedi, a ps0 crit straight through the shields, followed by death. No shields lost, R2 just sitting there twiddling his ... well ... whatever astromechs twiddle.

The Kylo Palp Decimator (probably chiraneau) will be brutal on any low hull ship.

Kylo only applies his effect when the ship would be delt a critical. It's not going through the shields. I'm not sure his effect on Corran will be as strong aa people fear.

It's a problem on any ship with low agility too. Double blinded pilots, then ps0s or stunned pilots.

Oh, it's going through shields. Ships can suffer crits but then they are blocked by shields. When this happens, however, Dark side steps in and pushes the crit through the shields with a faceup pilot crit that you chose earlier.

No, you need to suffer critical damage for it to trigger.

The damage card is applied when you would take critical damage. So an uncanceled crit result gets through your defense dice and instead of losing a shield token you take the selected crit. It is massively detrimental to Corran.

Previews have been known to be wrong though.

It will need to be clarified in an FAQ though. As written I think it goes through shields, but I don't think everyone will see it that way. I wouldn't be surprised if it is FAQed either way.

I don't fly Corran often but when I do I always take him with Hull Upgrade.

If that's the case then it's not just Corran that needs to worry. With Palp, most small ships have the potential to die in just three hits.

I do think that a large number of people will be confused by what this condition does but I would be willing to bet that almost everyone that is confused by it equates "suffering a critical damage" with "being dealt a face-up damage card".

Agreed. Because at that point Corran would be about dead anyway. And to get ALL his shields removed can be a feat. Not always but normally.

The condition will deal a face-up card through shields unless there is a change to either the card text or the rules between now and when it releases.

Corran had a good matchup to win worlds & could have done so. Sadly there will be more Corran in the immediate future :(

I'll be running BMST so Corran gets scared out of the meta again after a month or two.

If Corran ever gives up R2-D2, he's free to rejoin this game. Otherwise good riddance.
