This may have been asked, but I can't find it. The Niman technique uses willpower for a lightsaber check, is it then used to determine lightsaber damage instead of brawn?
Thanks.

Edited by legofiddl3Yup!
Edit: I may have misunderstood your post. Lightsabers have a base damage, to which each extra uncancelled success on the Lightsaber check adds +1 damage. By default, the check is your lightsaber skill/Brawn attribute, but some careers (such as Niman) allow you to use another attribute instead of Brawn. This is not direct damage added to the roll, it just makes you more lily to roll successes and thus get more damage. Sorry for the confusion!
Edited by Benjan MerunaNo, as lightsabers do not add Brawn (nor Willpower, nor any other characteristic) to their damage. Damage for lightsabers is equal to the weapon's damage rating plus the number of uncanceled successes, like ranged weapons.

This is correct. Weapon damage is only from the weapon in this case.
What about with the ancient sword?
Ancient Sword is +2, so you would normally add your Brawn. As the technique talents make no mention of changing characteristic for anything other than the check itself, I would rule that damage would still be based off of Brawn.

And for that very reason a vibro axe in the hand of a 7 brawn wookie can be more terrifying than a lightsaber ^-^
(now I am exaggerating a little, but crit build axe is very scarry.)
Ok, thanks guys ![]()

Brawn+2+uncancelled successes on a will+lightsaber check.
Yeah, the only thing the Form Technique talents do is change which characteristic you use when making a Lightsaber skill check.
Anything else, such as which characteristic is used for damage with things like the Ancient Swords are unchanged. As was noted, lightsabers don't allow you to add Brawn (or any other characteristic) to the damage, as like blasters they have a fixed damage value. Thus far, the only way available to a FaD character with a LS Form spec to add a characteristic to damage is the Falling Avalanche talent, which adds Brawn (and specifically Brawn) at the cost of a couple strain. EotE and AoR have a number of talents that let you spend a Destiny Point to add a characteristic's value to your damage, but I'm pretty sure none of those have made it over to FaD as of yet.
Hunter has Soft Spot.
I was also wondering about Lightsaber damage. Thanks fo explaining.
