Imperial Spy list?

By Thescificultist, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hey,

I'm reasonably new to the game and struggling for opponents at the minute which means I'm struggling to playtest new lists :(

Anyway I'm trying to put together an imperial spy themed list for some competitive play this weekend and im agonising over a few choices so looking for opinions/experience please!

So my thoughts are:

  • I want to include The Inquisitor (he's too good and too fun not to)
  • Blaise is prob also a requirement
  • Then Zillo (isn't this a legal requirement for an Imperial list, or have I been play too much trooper swarm
  • Command deck- Force Lightening, Reinforcements, Grenadier + all the spy cards I like.

That's when the hard bit starts, thats 16pts gone and I figure the rest of the list is a mix of ISBs and Stormies (maybe a snowtrooper?), but not sure how that mix looks.

  • 1 eISB & 2 eStormies- 5 activations, no pts for cross-training leaving only 2 activations to play Spy cards, and sacrificing Zillo!!!
  • 1 eISB, 1 ISB, 2 stormies- losing those focuses and some health with my stormies , is the standard ISB worth playing?
  • 1 eISB, 1 eStormies, 1 Snowtrooper with Cross-training

Or prehaps someone has a radically different idea.......thanks in advance...

I'm sure you'll see a nod to the World's list that just won over the weekend.

Most people here would say in a super competitive match to drop INQ and put in eStormies in his place. I say it depends on what you think is fun and how your enviroment is where you play. I play a lot less competitive lists sometimes just for fun or because everyone is new to the game in my area.

9 eStorm or 2 Officer +7 eISB (or drop Inquisitor)

9 eStorm

9 Inquisitor

6 Blaise

1 Zillo

1 Cross Training

2 Officer

2 Officer

1 Rule By Fear or another Cross Training

All are good options, depends on what you have practiced and like to play.

Usually the more quality figures you have (elite usually over regular) the better you do just due to amount of health and damage over time.

Honestly, I don't take forced lightning. I don't play the Inquisitor enough and there isn't another force user to complement him like in the Rebels where you can take 2-3 cheap force users like Davith and Obiwan. I'd probably stick his card in and then focus on force rush/surge and maybe throw in Primary Target if you think you can keep him alive long enough. I'd probably prefer more trooper cards and spy cards as well as having multiple troopers to use them. If it was me I'd make sure I had 2 units of eStormtroopers with CrossTraining and Blaise, some officers, Zillo and then see what I can fit in. I don't play imperial as much as others though, so I've never found the eISBs as good as the eStormies.

What were the winner and runner up lists at world`s? Is there a site that has already compiled them?

Look in the Worlds posts on the front page of the Imperial Assault , it was listed there under Worlds Builds

"The command deck is pretty much what you would expect.

First, there are the required trooper/spy/general cards:

Grenadier

2x Reinforcements

Comm Disruption

Intel Leak

Negation

Tough Luck

That's 12 points, so you really only have 3 to work with.

I chose Lock On and Jump Jets.

Lock On helps get rid of the stupid dodge, or is accuracy or negate an evade in a pinch for some blast.

Jump Jets gets the heavies into the action, especially on Nelvaanian and Coruscant. You can also just use it for some surprise attacks.

Other valid options here would be Inspiring Speech (one of my friends was playing this, I had to ditch Reinforcements with Blaise against him to get it out of his hand to not get wrecked), Strategic Shift, Hit and Run, or a few other pretty good cards.

For the 0's, it's pretty much all the standard required stuff:

Espionage Mastery

Element of Surprise

Planning

Take Initiative

Urgency

Deadeye

Urgency/Deadeye are the least useful probably, but there isn't anything better in my opinion.

Regarding the why on the eHeavies:

With hidden from Blaise, they become extremely good. Blast 2 is particularly effective on the new ISB headquarters map.

The heavies can also take a decent amount of damage, which is nice.

Snowtroopers are pretty poor damage dealers unless you roll extremely well. They also cost more, which means you can't bring something else that"

Thanks for the input. I think I've come to the realisation that I can't have everything I want and keep the competitive edge for organised play. So the Inquistor goes.

I'm going double eStormies, double eISBs, Blaise, Zillo and either 1cross training or rule by fear.

It's not that I'm trying to invent a new meta or anything just want to play something a bit different but still competitive enough for a store tourney!

Expecting to go up against lots of trooper swarm and sabs.....ill let you know how it goes.

I'd absolutely go Rule By Fear when you already have the three spy groups.

I mean, do what you like friend, I took second in a tourney here and lost the last game 40-39 with the following list:

Inquisitor
eStorms + cross training
eISB x2
Blaise
rule by fear

Love it Madfurher, I agonise for days over dropping the Inq and then you wander in a say he's competitive enough after all :D :D

I think I've managed to sort an opponent at my local club to get a few test games in tomorrow night, so I'll be able to try it both ways round before Sunday!
