I'd ussually never complain, but the X-Wing Worlds Coverage is not up to FFGs usual standard

And I agree that the commentators were really bad, they sounded to be very confused most of times, giving wrong opinions of what was happening during the match, mostly because they didn't know the rules or what the ships, cards and pilots do.

The final match of X-Wing Miniatures was very bad. Someone told me that this is what happens when the players gets exhausted after playing more than 10 hours. I think Fantasy Flight Games needs to change some stuff and not make those tourneys so much tiresome mentally and physically. Gotta have few matches per day and the finals should each be played in a different day. Then all players would be at their 100% and we would watch better quality matches.

Honestly, that would be REALLY tough to arrange. With 300-plus players it's almost impossible to organise a tournament that is both rigourous enough to test them properly against each other, and short enough to be remotely reasonable in length, when there are several other tournaments happening at the same time.

Going to a four day format would maybe make life easier on the players and mean they're fresher for the final, but it would make the whole process much longer.

Not to mention considerably harder to organise attending as a player. These events can be expensive if you're not within a short range of the venue. Flights and accommodation can be expensive enough without tacking another day on to the end that you may or may not even qualify for.

It's all well and good to hope for a spectacle, but unless someone is comping the bill for the extended time, I'd imagine it'd turn more people away than it'd encourage to stay.

Yeah, not to mention a nightmare in terms of logistics. It might be a bit easier to manage once the Worlds are split, but with the number of games with a large amount of players this year, trying to spread it out would require a lot more space and work.

When it comes to overlays I prefer the ones that showed current damage state on the various ships.

Also if the single shot upgrades have been used.

To start with I am great full that there was a stream at all. I could not attend, but got a lot of updates from the local group that went and was glued to the X-wing portion of the steam for both days. That being said I liked Alex Davey's commentary, but the other guy was just not very knowledgeable about X-wing. FFG is making enough money on this game that they could certainly afford to bring in another commentator. Fly someone who is known in the community but was not able to make the registration, or ask one of the play testers to comment. I know one of our local guys went as a judge all weekend. I am sure that they could have found a very good co commentator if they just tried. And while their overlay is better than in past years, there are some very good overlays that are much better.

While i enjoyed what i watched i think FFG is missing a golden opportunity. It would not take that much investment on there part to have a really slick presentation. The more professional your stream is of events like this the more buzz and viewership thus the more people you end up driving to your game. Right now the outward presentation seems kind of like an afterthought when in reality from a business perspective it should be the main reason for an event like that. in fact all of your major tournaments should be covered with professionalism as it only serves to add awareness about the game and make it feel like its the huge massive exciting game that it is.

Make me want to invite some x-wing friends over and maybe some none x-wing players over to watch worlds. Brand exposure is key and it confuses me when companies appear to put a lackluster effort when they have the opportunity to do so much more.

What exactly was wrong with it? I saw only one (edit: serious) error, and that was made by the winner.

All of their employees are incredibly busy during this time. Everyone has their hands full and they're already pretty much all hands on deck working long days.

It's hard to remember that they have other games and side events going on at the same time and are making sure those are running smoothly, enough so that even X-wing swiss takes a back seat until it gets to Top 16.

They've improved their twitter updates quite a bit from last year if I remember.

While understandable, that really suggests they should let volunteer enthusiasts run the coverage on their behalf. Heck, there's even odds that such folks might even be able to spot the 'interesting' matches just from the swiss pairings. :)

This isn't going to happen though. They can't let outsiders on the stream without knowing what they will say, etc when on company dime. I think FFG does a decent job with what they have available.

When dealing with an IP like Star Wars, LFL probably wants to accept and validate everything for triplicate.

They cannot afford having some random person saying something that would make them look bad. Imagine that some of these community commentator says the F word by accident in the official FFG stream channel? Next day you would be seeing "Disney and Star Wars to pervert the minds of our children" in Fox News.

It's not going to happen. They just cannot afford the risk.

A legal contract will cover that. Other games can manage it.

I was saying elsewhere, it's possible FFG might have been well-intentioned, but may have had security issues with allowing people onto their corporate network.

Small point, it was their corporate guest network, not corporate network. Usually corp guest networks are supposed to be able to handle random guest laptops and cell phones.

Wow, that's bad for FFG if they had a proper guest network.

I did notice the forums went down multiple times during worlds. Having a completely separate guest network is really the way to go, you don't want people having any more access to your resources than they would have at a Starbucks!
