Call in Reinforcements!!! (A new type of deployment)

By SlaveofChrist, in X-Wing

I've had an idea for a while about having some of your initial ships on the "sidelines" to be used as backup and/or reinforcements.

After losing two of my Ace Imperial TIE Interceptors to the Falcon (against my son in a casual game) I thought again about the idea of keeping one or two of your ships as reinforcements both as a nice strategic edge and a nice thematic flavour.

So the idea on how to implement it would be you still have to keep costs within the 100 point build, and then maybe you can only put so many ships on the sidelines. Maybe these ships have to use an elite talent slot "Reinforcements" cost 2 or 3 in order to be eligible, and then they get deployed during the activation phase (like launching the Phantom). Maybe a caveat could be if your last ship on the battlefield has been destroyed (before "calling in reinforcements) then the reinforcements are also destroyed. Vice versa, if you don't call them in, but still manage to win then that is still ok.

Anyways, I just thought that it could really open up the possibilities to X-wings and could really breath some new life into it. As always, thoughts, comments or questions (not to mention improvements ;) made) are always welcome.

Thanks and God bless :) .

With some of the new upgrades playing with deployment I could see some new upgrade allowing a turn 2 deployment or something at some point being added to the game, maybe in a wave or 2?

This was I figured out after some discussion some time ago:

Why non-TIE? Because the mass produced TIEs (Fighter, Bomber and Interceptor) aren't hyperspace capable and the others (Defender, Advanced, Phantom, Avenger, Hunter) are all very rare. So it makes sense that, according to the old canon, the role of hyperspace reinforcements was of the Assault Gunboats.

Well with Resistance Hans he now has infiltration. So I'm sure there would be a pilot ability or upgrade card like an EPT with out flank.

What a fantastic idea!

I was actually thinking along the same lines, but not quite as well stated as you did. I was thinking of holding some of my aces in reserve while fielding mostly frontline ships (TIE's, Headhunter's, etc...) initially.
