Playmat Marketing Research

By WGNF911, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I was able to show the mat at the GA regional this past Saturday and let folks touch it. Unfortunately, all the tables were filled with mats so no one played with it, however, it was important for me for one very important reason: it reminded me how terribly frustrating fabric covered mats are to play with. I was getting a bit more than miffed every time we bumped a model or tried to adjust squadron HP or activation. It had been so long since I had played on that type of mat. So, expect to see something in the near future as I work out how to provide what I think will be a product that will make the play experience less frustrating and therefore more enjoyable. Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming.

I was able to check out the mat and did what I consider to be my standard way of playing Armada: basically flailing around and bumping into every ship in a 1' x 1' area. And WGNF911's mat was definitely 1000x better at preventing ships from moving. I have a really nice magnetic mat that I never use at home because it's just too heavy, and after buying it I didn't really want to put magnets on the bottom of every ship and squadron. I think this yoga-mat type material is really the way to go.

I say this as I'm probably going to go ahead and order that Hoth playmat, and then use all the ice as an excuse for why my ships slide everywhere...
