Final 4 anticlimatic?

By chriscook, in Star Wars: Armada

Armada is not set up in a way that is pro single eliminations because of the scoring. These games could be very boring cause all you need to do is 6-5 and you move on. With that being said I think the 4 vettes and yt2400s should win the whole thing. He should never lose a vette and maybe just chip away at a few squads and get his 6-5. Unless he has to play vs contested outpost. Just my thoughts. what do you guys think?

I think the rieken, gallant, yavaris list will win. Its interesting. The top 2 each day played eachother. SO we could have a rematch. I think both games 6-5

Between this and Worlds being a Joke, aren't you just a barrel of sunshine? :D

This is not a negative post. An observation of how the game is not ment for single elimination. Others are thinking the same thing about the tourney structure. Im generally a positive person. This is a great game!

The scoring system used now makes for better games than single elimination. If it was a death match this game wouldn't be much different than X-Wing and would be very stale. How would you devise a system to determine who wins? Kill the enemy fleet? Will you lift the 6 turn rule and prolong the game longer and remove objectives, which makes the game even better and exciting?

Or play to score the most points for an elimination? At which point every game would be as you described: scraping up enough points to win, which makes for very boring games.

The scoring system we have now encourages risk/reward behavior and I think that is why this game is so fun and exciting to play, and even watch. It isn't perfect, but it allows for players to bounce back after a bad game, or a very close one. And more importantly, you get your 3 games that you paid for. Tickets to Worlds were like $65. How sh*tty would it be to show up on day 1 and get eliminated first round?

The next time you play in a tournament, try to play only 6-5 games and tell us how high you place. I can promise you it won't be very good.

This is exactly the point he is making. The scoring system, while great for tournaments won by overall tournament points scored, does not translate well into a single elimination format. Which the semi's were

But that's why its a Hybrid System...

The two flights utilise the tried and tested Touranment Points over 4 games, to Qualify.... Your Fleet must be built to Win, and to Win Big... You cann't scrape through with 6-5s...

The Flip-Side, is that once you do qualify, you have to show that your Fleet also has the teeth to win at all costs...

To have one Fleet be able to operate in both directions, when called for:

It is what separates the Best from Merely the Good....
