An Idea For Equipment Cards

By John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I haven't played the new WFRP yet, but I was thinking about if FFG put out a set of equipment cards. The major reason is that it could be really easy to do a simple encumbrance system. I'm thinking of something like this: each race can carry a number of Loads (Humans get 3, Dwarves get 4, etc...). If they carry more than this number of Loads they get a penalty to any physical activity (say an extra challenge die). Each object carried would have a card detailing any stats it might have (like a weapon's damage) and it's weight category. The weight categories would be Large (a suit of plate armor), Medium (a sword), Small (a dagger), and Tiny (a coin). A Load would be equal to six Small objects, three Medium objects or a single Large object (Tiny objects are up to the GM's discretion). Each player's items are placed in different decks, each deck being a different weight category . Once you carry that number of cards in a deck/weight category, the top card in the deck is turned over as the other side reads "ONE LOAD." Any further items in the same weight category are placed in a new deck.

The pros to this system are that you can instantly see how many Loads your character is carrying and adding objects is a snap with no math involved. The cons are that it adds more cards to an already card-heavy game and that it might wind up taking too much table space. What do you guys think?

Sounds like something that could easily go along with the other parts of the game though I haven't ever calculated encumbrance or demanded it from my players in all the years we have played. Cards and pieces are a nice add-on though to the game. You could possibly go with the paizo-cards until/if FFG makes them:

Those look perfect. I'd actually seen them before, but stupidly assumed they had the 3.5 stats printed on them. Cool!
