All Stressed Out (Braylen, Eaden, and Tycho)

By Zetsubou, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all! Had a new squad idea and thought I would ask for some input. Here's the list:

ARC-170 Braylen 25 (32)

  • R3-A2 2
  • Gunner 5
  • Alliance Overhaul 0

YT-2400 Eaden 32 (35)

  • Smuggling Compartment 0
  • Rigged Cargo Chute 1
  • Dash 2

A-Wing Tycho 26 (32)

  • PTL 3
  • Refit -2
  • AT 2
  • Outmaneuver 3

Total 99

Not really sold on Tycho as my third ship; I just happen to love A-Wings and it felt fairly in theme. I think my primary concern is whether or not this has the firepower. I imagine between the control and some okay maneuverability it should have sufficient staying power, but y'all might disagree with me there.

I would highly recommend changing Outmaneuver to Rage. Rage gives a focus token, and 3 attack dice reroll (free target lock). You can the PTL for boost, evade, or another Focus. It also saves you 2 more points.

However, the entire list is janky. If you want to maximize Eaden, you need to make sure all your other ships can deal out stress for Eadens attack.

For Example:

Gold Squadron Pilot (26)

BTL Title

R3-A2

TLT

Eaden (35)

Dash

Smuggling Compartment

Rigged Cargo Chute

Shara Bey (36)

R2 Astromech

PTL

Tactician

Alliance Overhaul

Vectored Thrusters

Total: 95

This list gives you a Stressbot Y-Wing. Also Shara Bey also gives stress out both arcs at range 2, and PTL to Target Lock for her ability and then focus or barrel roll.

Oh yeah, the entire idea is concentrated jank-- that's pretty much all I know how to make! I'm not sure if switching Braylen to Shara is worth it, although I admittedly wouldn't know what to do with the extra 4 points. I also feel as though the prevalence of PtL and occasional need for sloops/k-turns/talon rolls help maximize eaden without having to build entirely around him. As much as he looks like the list's centerpiece, he's more just another cog in the machine (at least in my theorycraft) that can carry his weight, force opponents to reconsider gaining stress, and is pretty cheap, all things considered. I do really like the idea of Rage, though! I was struggling over the second ept for Tycho but that would fit the bill easily and shave off some points for vectored thrusters on Braylen, maybe.

Thanks for the input!

If you're going to fly Tycho with that build, might as well throw the Test Pilot title on him, and add one of the zero cost EPTs, Adaptability or Trick Shot, (or eventually, A Score to Settle). Somethin' for nothin' is never not good!

Another, particularly wild take on a Stressbot:

29 - Nien Numb (T-70)

2 - R3-A2

2 - Snap Shot

X - other upgrades like Autothrusters, Primed Thrusters, etc

Fly straight into the fight, when a ship maneuvers into your Range 1 arc, Snap Shot it, dealing stress with your astromech, then Nien removes the stress you just got. Combat round, shoot it again for a second stress, and again, remove your stress with your pilot ability.

I actually did have test pilot included. Didn't specify it, but he has two EPTs attached.

Nice build. I think i drop Tycho to put an ARC-170 (or Bwing + E1) with Tactician. So i have another ship giving stress.

I looked at grabbing a B-Wing, but I wasn't entirely sure what pilot to go with/how to build them. I ended up switching Tycho with Jake + VI, PTL, AT, Prockets and while I liked that Jake had trouble contributing after his prockets were used up. I'll toy around with a B more this evening.

Sooo I came up with something (inspired by the "have you tried this?" thread)

Nera (26) 32

  • Flechette Torps 2
  • EM 2
  • Deadeye 1
  • Munitions Failsafe 1

Even more jank but the list has honestly done quite well in my casual experimentation.
