Appalling Luck - Stories of the less Amazing.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, its hit a few threads (and for that, I do apologise)...

But We'll start the care and share circle.

I am Dras, and I am statistically abysmal.

My most famously lopsided die rolls were actually captured on a DiceHate stream

Its not just the fact that I am cold... ts the fact that my apparent dice frigidity makes the opponents luck over-compensate and roll the streaks!

I maneuvered my Ackbar Assault Frigate, on the 2nd turn, around to the side-to-rear quarter of an Enemy Moncal, after having savaged it with my other assault frigates... I was very lightly damaged...

My last assault frigate activates, and rolls...

BLANK

BLANK

BLANK
ACCURACY

To then rub salt in the wounds, the enemy MonCal, at the start of the third turn, edged its shot against Ackbar's broadside...

DOUBLE HIT
DOUBLE HIT

DOUBLE HIT

CRITICAL

ACCURACY

ACCURACY

My Lone Evade, the only token I could use properly, rerolled a Double Hit... Into a Double Hit...

So, I was lucky. They'd done their big shot first... ECM'd the Brace to use it, Took 4 on the lightly damaged side (which still resulted in a face-up Structural Damage card)...

... The ignomity was then, the rear rolled (withthe Confire)

Double Hit
Double HIt

Crit

Acc

Into that damaged side, hit my Redirect, and even with the brace... Ackbar detonated with a second Structural....

Top of 3. Ackbar's Dead.

I went on to lose that game by 22 MOV... With his last ship on 1 Hull damage... After playing without Ackbar and the additional dice he would have added for Three Turns....

Even if I roll "Okay". My opponents are Hot. If I roll "Garbage", my opponent might only roll "okay".. But its "enough."

(All together) Hi Dras.

I had a QTC and SA Liberty with Raymus roll 5 blanks and 1 Acc for CF for a net yield of 2 Acc and 5 blanks. Wonderful first shot. So far I've only had 3 all blank shots with 4+ reds at crucial moments of the game, 2 were at a tournament.

Mostly I just lose in deployment.

It also doesn't help that my goto list is an ISD supported by two VSDs.

I ran Luke once recently.

I got a b-e-a-utiful Tallon/Yavaris run with him on a speed-1 glad.

No defenders, Jan nearby for no marauding nonsense.

First attack, blank. Bcc roll, blank. Second BCC roll, one damage.

Next opponent activation I lost my second BCC due to some nasty gunning with an accuracy.

Yavaris activations on Luke:

Roll 1a, blank BCC, blank.

Roll 2a, blank BCC, blank.

Good god man.

I used to include Tycho as the "you cant run from me" squadron to put that last nail in the coffin of ships with one hull point that are trying to limp away...

Tycho has never pulled it off. After 4 times where tycho lines up perfectly to deliver the coup de grace to some poor soul... blank... every... single... time.

I don't include tycho anymore.

My blank master is Wedge. Miferr and CNinja can confirm that on the activated attack of 6 dice, I have blanked all but one time....I have used him dozens of times....

I've had all sorts of bad die rolls, especially with XW. But Rhymer has a signature move: The Rhymer Whiff if that tells you how well he does haha. I'd say it's probably 80% of the time … at least. I had a friend over on Tuesday and he popped an XW over to kill Iggy Pop. I figured he was a goner since his scatter was burned and only had 1 HP left. He rolls 5 blue thanks to flight controllers and they are all accuracies! He had Toryn Far in range, rerolls one blue and gets another accuracy! Oh, and Iggy got the 2 hits on his counter attack haha.

Ain't nothing like rolling all accuracies in a shot against anything. Now imagine that with red dice too on a Salvation. <_<

Who needs to imagine it... When you've lived it...

Six Times.

I whiffed with wedge needing one damage. And tycho's standard counter roll is crit acc.

Also last week I rolled six red blanks

5 misses with TIE bombers in a row. Remember that Mad? Because I'm totally not bitter about it.

Hi I'm Jon and managed to trip tap with my demo ( OE + CF dials) and not roll a single crit...... Yes that's 24 black rolls, I was miffed......

Stress testing a friends worlds build, I forgot I had a g-8 on my interdictor till turn 4, after his Mc-30 blasted through my ranks and broke all my ships, could have hung it up in front of demolisher if I'd snagged his speed. Oh would have should have.

You're not alone, as I've had frigates and even Imperial SDs do absolutely nothing in some games.

Round 1 of worlds I double-arced an ISD I at close range with my MC80 for two (or was it three?) turns straight ... didn't get the kill.

In X-wing, I had a range 1 target-locked front arc shot with a ghost (so 5 reds) ... rolled 4 Blank/Focus. Spend TL, roll 5 blanks. 10 dice ... 9 blanks, 1 Focus (and no Focus token).

Soooo...can I play all of you guys?

I would love to pick up a few wins, and this seems like the place to do it. ;)

Buddy of mine rolled 3 Accuracies, 2 blanks, and 1 hit on an MC80 broadside.

That was the day he decided always Leading Shots on your big ships. Always. It's been a pretty beneficial policy for him.

Worst I have on my own is Ozzel as a commander with a 5 black dice broadside from a Gladiator with Concentrate Fire. Comes up 4 hits, 1 blank. I've got Assault Concussion Missiles so I reroll the whole shebang. 4 blanks, 1 hit. Womp. Made the difference in the LMC80 surviving the game from sheer lack of damage that should've happened. My new policy is "unless you have a really good reason, don't go crazy fishing for hit+crit black dice unless you've got Screed. Maybe you just want the Expanded Launchers instead." It's been nice.

I remember me and my opponent had 3 rounds of squadron fire where we landed nothing. If I recall we both had 4-6 squads each.

We both laughed at the statistical skew of the dice.

Of course, but you know, its not without risk...

Because if my luck turns...

Do you really want to be known as "The Guy that Dras defeated?"

I also recall my MC80 went absolutely limp during Regionals. Defiance with a CF and Leading Shots. With the reroll, I think I managed 2 hits from the 15 total rolled die.

Good point--I withdraw the challenge.

I have also had a few bad moments myself. Recently I managed to Yarvaris-BCC-Raymus-and-the-kitchen-sink a Raider, confident I could pop it. All of it came up one damage short of killing it, however. This was not a big problem...I had my A-Wings nearby and more squad commands inbound!

Their follow-up runs, however, produced a grand total of nothing, and left them also sitting in arc. I would rather not describe what said Raider did to my squadrons next...

Six Times.

Have you managed it twice in one game? X3

In my experience there's no such thing as luck...

Use the Force Dras...

Let go Dras...

Not really dice luck but still an unlucky situation.

How about flying across the Pacific Ocean to play Worlds with a 12 squadron list, choosing not to use your National Bye, get chosen the odds bye, get paired next round with one of 2 out 41 other players with 12+ squadrons whose also a National Champ.
