Star Wars Rebels and Imperial Assault

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So with Rebels being ever more important to Star Wars, and especially so as we are starting to finish up the OT, I thought why not make a thread that is just about Rebels and what the show could bring to the game, be it good or bad, and how they might play or the abilities they might have. I know that not everyone might want Rebels expansions, but I figure at some point we will see them added to the game, well at least we will see them added more to the game since we already have the Grand Inquisitor.

Spoilers below for characters who might show up, by season and most likely faction.

Season 1:
Rebels:

Ezra Bridger
Kanan Jarrus
Hera Syndulla
Sabine
Zeb Orrellios
Chopper

Yoda (If he isn't added before then.)

Imperials :

Inquisitor (Already in the game)
Agent Kallus
Imperial Combat Driver
Imperial Pilot
AT-DP
Imperial Troop Transport
Imperial Cadet
Grand Moff Tarkin

Scum:

Cikatro Vizago
IG-RM Bodyguard Droid
Fyrnock
RQ Protocol Droid (Maybe Imperial, or a unit without a faction?)
Azmorigan
RX-Pilot Droid (Won’t happen, I just like the droid)

Season 2
Rebels:

Ahsoka Tano
Rebel Pilot
Phoenix Cell Rebel Trooper
Commander Rex
Cham Syndulla
Twi’lek Rebel (Gobi, Numa, generic unit)
AP-5

Imperials:

Fifth Brother
Seventh Sister
Imperial Protocol Droid
Eighth Brother

Scum:

Hondo Ohnaka
GNK Droid
Ketsu Onyo (Maybe a duel Rebel and Scum character?)
Fenn Rau
Mandalorian Warrior/Protector
Krykna (Basically the Knobby White Spider)
Maul

Season 3
Rebels:

Ezra Bridger (To reflect more dark side abilities/traits)
Kanan Jarrus (To reflect his new blindness, switch to a support unit?)
Sabine Wren (Jetpack, and Dark Saber)
Wedge Antilles
Hobbie Klivian
Blurrg Rider

Imperials:

Grand Admiral Thrawn
Governor Pryce
Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike (If we for some reason don’t get them in the Endor Expansion)
Gar Saxon (He could potentially just be replaced with the generic Imperial Supercommandos)
Imperial Supercommandos

Imperial Sentry Droids

Scum:

Bendu (?)
Repurposed Droid (Tour Guide Droid with a blaster rifle)
Battle Droids
Super Tactical Droid/Kalani
Destroyer Droid

Dismantler Droid

I'll try to update the lists as new episodes come out but if I miss anything feel free to let me know.

Jedi Temple Guards maybe? They were in the Yoda episode, but as a vision or flashback.

I think they would be cool, but don't know if they count.

I fully endorse the inclusion of the Grand Moth! ;)

He's unhappy because the fire has gone out of the universe.

Jet Trooper/Imperial Officer hybrid unit?

I'd love to see Rex, Ashoka, and Hando.

Personally, I'd love to see some elements of Rebels included, but I don't expect for much more than a wave or two. Still, the more (of anything) the merrier!

The Fly/Star Wars crossover everyone has been waiting for!

Not sure about a figure but it would be a cool mission rule where they show up the way they did in the episode.

Those three would be great for a Clone Wars Veteran skirmish expansion set, though I wonder who they'd throw in for the Imperials? Maybe Tarkin?

Maybe Yularen, though I don't know if he's IA's type. Honestly, I'm not sure Tarkin is, either. I'm all for equality for the three factions, but a Clone Wars vets one would be pretty heavily favored for Rebels and Scum. I think a big problem for the Empire with this is that a lot of the big named characters we see in The Clone Wars (like Rex) have defected by the time of Rebels.

I'd love something like this:

Clone Wars Veterans Wave

Rebels

Ashoka

Rex

Imperials (meh)

Yularen

Tarkin

Scum

Hondo

Cad Bane

Darth Maul

Embo

Refurbished Battle Droids

I say Tarkin since we both see him in Rebels as well as being present for an operation or two where he is wearing armor, so it would be safe to assume that while maybe a little unlikely he could have been leading a force in a skirmish battle.

As for Cad Bane, and Embo and other cool bounty hunters I hope that we just start seeing them added to the game the same way the currest ESB bounty hunters are added to the game with one per small/big expansion.

With the latest episode it is easy to see that Gar Saxon could just as well fit into a generic Imperial Super Commando unit, at least so far as we know. Though I wonder how they would be compared to the Jet Troopers coming in the Jabba Big Expansion. I would imagine the Super Commandos would be in groups of two and would maybe have more health and different attack dice compared to the Jet Troopers, with surge abilities to try and give them a different role/focus than what the Jet Troopers will provide.

As for the Rebels releases I'd imagine that the format would be:

Lothal Big Box:

-Hera, Chopper

-Agent Kallus

(The box would focus more on Lothal and Season 1 of the show with introducing units and some characters from it)

Jedi Small Box:

-Kanan, Ezra

-Inquisitors?

(A small box focused on Season 2 with the focus on the Jedi main characters and the dark side users with scum units filling it out. Both as a way to get Hondo, as well as a callback to how Kanan survived after the Clone Wars.)

Mandalorian Big Box:

-Sabine, Zeb

-Imperial Super Commandos

-Mandalorian Warriors/Protectors

(A focus on Mandalore and the Lasats, and probally including more covert actions/special ops missions or units.)

Alternatively they could make the Mandalorian a small box and throw a Clone Wars big box in there focusing on characters like Rex and Ahsoka, with the heroes being Clone Wars survivors/vetrens be it as smugglers, former confederacy fighters, or clones who removed their implants and how they are helping form the alliance. It would also let them include Clone Wars units like a Battle Droid pack for scum.

I have been sitting on the fence regarding IA. If they go further down the Rebels path, well, I just may join as a regular. Kanan? Hera? Freakin' Chopper?!? Yeah. That would do it for me! (Adding Ahsoka and Mcquarrie Vader would be rad too!)

I would love to see as much Rebels IA content as we can get.

Well we have the Inquisitor, so we know its on their radar. Plus I believe the LCG and X-Wing have numerous characters from Rebels by now as well all the way up to Ahsoka.

I hope they save those characters for an actual Rebels box though, pretty much every episode of that show is an IA mission so it seems plausible. It could just be a big box expansion as well since the timelines are so close together. I dread a TFA box as it would mean repainting 9 more Storm Troopers!! NOOO!!!!

Edited by FrogTrigger

I think it doesn't need a big box. Just the heroes and rebel villains kallus etc. Then a campaign using the tiles we already have. If it was a whole new box it would need Stormtroopers

Big Box expansion equivalent to Hoth or Jabba's Realm. Big enough that they can fit in a few bad guys, a few new bad guy units, some unique tiles (perhaps the Ghost or something else from the show?). Perhaps they could do it with a little box expansion, but I did not mean a whole new big box of it's own. TFA would need that though as the ST's look completely different.

I can't wait to get Chopper and Ahsoka on the table. It seems rather inevitable at this point which is really exciting.

The not so likely figures I'd love to have would be a gonk droid and a blurgg rider.

Would love to see Hondo make an appearance, Sabine with her 2 pistols and the Inquisitors (always loved the Seventh Sister with her mech pets)

Maybe a new Vader to represent him in Rebels - current one is a bit of a throwback to early IA and is overcosted by far and in ways underpowered

Though I don't know if we will see Rebels content or Rogue One content first.

I hope not to see Rebels expansions as I personally have no connection to the animated series. Perhaps we can move on forward with The Force Awakens?

Isn't there a good possibility of power creep from too many expansions? I heard multiple X-wing players mentioning that they enjoy the game much less and prefer to play Star Wars Imperial Assault due to power creep in X-Wing.

The Seventh Sister's mini probe droids could make an interesting companion.

The game kind already suffers from power creep already, with older hero and OT characters being too expensive compared to their cost, especially now as we have cheaper heroes and the like for skirmish. And with the way that Rebels has been added to the LCG game, X-wing, and Armada I have a feeling that they will very much be coming to this game, especially as they are popular to some fan, create the opportunity for fans of show to pick the game up, and well competitive players will buy stuff that allows them to remain competitive.

I suspect we will see a Sequel Trilogy release cycle or spin off game at somepoint, but I would assume that would be once all three films have been released. Plus with Rogue One and Rebels being popular at the moment it would make more sense, I think, to focus on that considering that this game focuses on the Galactic Civil War.

So will power creep destroy this game as well? :o

The wave 1 uniques were costed for the campaign. They have never been worth their point cost compared to elite Stormtrooper and elite Probe Droids , which are the benchmarks for new figures in skirmish.

So, the new pricing is more about making new figures competitive with wave 1 figures (Stormtroopers and Probe Droids among others) than power creep.

Edited by a1bert

The new stuff is more like bringing balance to the force ;)

But seriously, the Devs have said what a1bert said above. The majority of uniques in the base set and wave 1 were balanced for campaign and it wasn't sure how they'd do in skirmish. They have been working to remedy it since and didn't really hit their stride until bespin I think many would argue. Though there are some standouts even before that (R2 and 3PO, Leia, HK's). And they are working on releasing command card diversity and attachments/upgrades to address some units. But that's hard to do because they don't want to overpower them either. I'd say see advanced comms and how it upgrades kayn and Sorin but arguably not enough (just barely off maybe should have been free?). Though it has definitely made them able to be considered and Sorin does have a relatively playable list :)

I appreciate the sentiment regarding power creep but I think it is unwarranted in x-wing. FFG strikes a fair balance. Now if we were talking Battlefront. . . that's a different story. As for a lack of connection I confessI have no idea what this looks like unless you haven't seen the show. Ithas had moments that were simply breathtaking.
