Are these list balanced enough...

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have some friends that are just learning how to play X-Wing. They played gererics with no upgrades. Tonight we are adding upgrades but keeping with generics. I'd like to up it after tonights game but I don't want to scare them. They wanted to play because it is 'Star Wars'. so...

Are these list balanced enough for a fun casual game? No upgrades just pilots. I'm not looking for a blowout ,lop-sided game so something so complicated you forget which upgrade card you should have used last turn, hence no upgrades. Yet each does have a special ability.

Is it:

  • With each pilot having their own ability it is too complicated; Not complicated
  • Heavily favors one side; Balanced
  • Yes I know there is no synergy anywhere except with Yorr.

Imperial Patriots:

Darth Vader (29)
Captain Yorr (24)
Countess Ryad (34)
The Inquisitor (25)

What are your thoughts please.

Without an EPT to generate stress for Nien Nunb his ability is rather wasted. Getting someone in R1 after a Tallon roll or K turn would be rare and situational. I would replace him with Ello Asty which would serve much the same function on the T-rolls(removing the stress from a red maneuver) and let your friends play with some fun movement abilities, a Countess Ryad equivalent if you will.

With the shuttle, in my experience it is a toss up as to whether they will enjoy them a lot. I taught a friend of mine to play and he took an instant disliking to large bases as he felt they were cumbersome. However as with all things your mileage may vary.

Apart from that they appear pretty balanced for a casual game. The abilities are not that difficult to remember. If they are already used to focus/target lock then this should not be too bad.

Then it would be

Poe Dameron (31)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Ello Asty (30)
Jake Farrell (24)

Total: 114

What would be a good substitution for Yorr?
