Sales pitch me: attani mindlink.

By thebrettski, in X-Wing

Talonbane with mindlink is pretty good, it opens up his action to repositioning, if he gets a focus from someone else. But he is the only Khirax pilot I have ever flown in any list, so can't say for the rest. I still prefere Guri to him because of thrusters and her ability is a great aid to a mindlink list.

Here is a fun list I've been playing since the Jumpmaster Released, I'm 27-3 with it in tourneys. Won a SC, 2nd in another SC, and 17 in a regional

Mindlink makes this list work. Zuckuss is a beast with Mindlink and 4-lom, and Manaroo is just awesome.

Problem with this list is 2 of 3 losses were against Palp aces and one against a dash miranda build. Still a very fun list to play.

Palp Aces is the lists major weakness, so it won't be going competitive. People don't realize how good mindlink is until they face it when flown by a veteran mindlink player.

I think the power of teamwork speaks for itself.

Mindlink is nice, and now the best carriers IMO - Scyks - got a needed buff. The evade action is good to have in a Mindlink list, you have something to do with your actions.

I've found Kaa'to to be a good addition in a Mindlink list, he's the cheapest EPT carrier, has PS 5 like most of the scum EPT-capable ships and his ability works well with the Mindlink. At 16 points he's a bargain, and there's easily room for an illicit or a missile (Homing or Concussion) to give him a nasty bite.

My personal best was with the said Kaa'To, Manaroo (K4, Unhinged) and two Mangler Scyks, I was 10/70 something in the Nordic Nationals. A Mindlink list is somewhat demanding to fly but also very rewarding.

So, Correct me if I'm wrong, but th chain of events with this build would be as follows:

Nanaroo - K4 Security Droid, Unhinged Astronech, Proton Torpedoes, Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips, Attanni Mindlink

Fenn Rau - Autothrusters, Attanni Mindlink

Talonbane Cobra - Vectored Engines, Attanni Mindlink

MIGHTY MANAROO'S MAD MINDLINK MULTIPLICATION COMBINATION:

1 - Manaroo executes a green manuever, obtains a Target Lock and takes Focus as her action. Fenn and Talonbane get Focus tokens as a result.

2 - Fenn moves, and with his action Boosts into range 1.

3 - Cobra moves, and Target Locks an enemy.

4 - start of the combat phase, Manaroo passes her Target Lock and Focus token to Fenn.

5 - as Fenn acquired Manaroo's Focus token, she generates a fresh one through Mindlink.

So, we end up with:

Fenn - double focused, target locked

Cobra - focused, target locked and

Manaroo - focused

From ONE focus action.

My brain hurts.

Yup that's exactly right, though I think I would rather put advanced proton torpedoes on fenn rather than the proton torpedoes on manarro as she will be passing her target lock off more often than not and firing a 6 dice attack from fenn will hurt more

Yes I won a tournament with that exact Manaroo, Guri with Thrusters and Palop with TLT and cloak. Every turn has so many actions :)

I've never heard of anyone using Mindlink with the Kihraxz Fighter. Is it due to the lower Agility not being as worth it? Or do the ships cost too much themselves? No, they cost the same. Maybe people haven't tried it? Or maybe it is the 2 Agility vs 3?

I have tried it. It did not work great as you have all PS 5 ships with no defensive (e.g. evade) actions. All you can do is TL and focus. Talonbane can work with a mixed ML ship, but by the time you are finished throwing 33 points into what is effectively a one-shot 5 die attack, you might as well make it 35 and go with PTL; or even better, save 10 points and go with N'Dru.

Just remember: never fly AM in squadron

I've used Black Sun Aces with Mindlink before; three of them, In fact, alongside a Mindlinked Palob.

Three 3-4 dice attacks with Target Lock and Focus I nothing to sniff at. Just make sure they're staggered and flying independently and not in formation as others have mentioned, you don't want to have to turn them all at once.

They worked pretty well for me (bit then I've been playing Kihraxz pretty much exclusively for the last 12 months).

Mindlink offers a squad action economy. I've been tinkering with Mindlink lists off and on since wave eight came out because I could see the potential. For casual play you can grab four PS5 Scum ships and give them all Mindlink so instead of your standard four actions per turn you can have seven. That is great for offense and defense. The downside of Mindlink isn't the stress that some people worry so much about, stress is manageable because the Mindlinked ships only get assigned a Focus or Stress if they already have one and having stress doesn't prevent the assigning of a Focus token from Mindlink when one ship clears it's stress and takes a Focus for the group. To shut down actions on a Mindlinked list you have to at least double stress all of them, at the same time. That is tough to do.

The real down side of Mindlink is that you have to plan you maneuvers very carefully because only one ship can perform a red maneuver per round. It takes some practice to get used to engaging in a way that allows your ships to stay in the fight without them all having to k-turn, s-loop, or t-roll at the same time.

Generally, when messing with Mindlink I feel like you need at three or four ships to really take advantage of the action economy. With two ships you are burning two EPT slots for one extra action a turn and I don't think that is worth it. Additionally I like to have a ship that is the primary supplier of Focus. Palob, Manaroo, Guri, or Kaa'to are my go to pilots because all of their pilot abilities synergize with Mindlink.

Start with one of those Focus mule ships and build out a three or four ship Mindlink list and try it out a few times; be patient though, figuring out the timing of maneuvers takes some practice. Once you get it down, Mindlink lists are very rewarding to fly.

Kad solus is also a good feeder as he generates a focus on red maneuvers so can still stay in the fight and feed the link the focus,

I forgot about him! I like his ability but the protectorate is such a maneuverable, offensive ship that I like for someone else to feed him focus so he can boost/barrel roll/target lock. When he turns around he can feed but that is, at most, once every other round. For a similar idea, a G1-A Gand Findsman with Outlaw Tech can do the same kind of thing.

I've played Attanni Mindlink during Polish Nationals this year. Missed the cut by Mov with 4-2, and came 3rd in Escalation tournament with 4-0.

List was P1 Scout, Manaroo and Kaato Leeachos.

When don't needed TL or Barrel Roll my focus generation was as follows:

1. Scout moves first, focuses. Gives focus to rest of the squad.

2. Manaroo moves second takes second focus.

3. Kaato moves third takes second focus.

4. Manaroo gives 2 Focuses to Scout and gets one back

5. Kaato takes focus from Manaroo, Manaroo gets it back.

So we're starting combat with 3 focuses on Punishing One Scout, 3 Focuses on Kaato, and Focus on Manaroo. Total 7 focuses :)

It was fun and quite competitive. Not as Parattanni, but still ;)

Enemy stressors are the problem. Against them, all of your ships will be stressed every round. Any ships that require red moves to turn around will never be able to do so. Turreted ships are fine, of course, but Vipers, Fangs, etc. are in big trouble faced with a stress mule, Asajj, etc.

I flew TLT Palob, Manaroo, and Guri in a small tournament and loved the list against except when I ran into gunner/R3A2 Braylen and could never get Guri pointed the right way.

A lot of people seem focused on Manaroo. She's good, to be sure, but my go-to Mindlink list is more about pushing dice through.

Bossk is the main provider of focus tokens. He doesn't worry about Target Lock because he has Dengar crew. Zuckuss can Target Lock after receiving a focus from Bossk, giving him huge damage with his ability. Fenn also gets extreme range-1 bonuses. At range-1, Bossk throws 4 dice (and can cancel a crit to deal 2 damage), Zuckuss throws 5, and Fenn throws 5. If all goes well, they get focus and rerolls every round without stress.

From my experience Mindlink lists are typically more resistant to stress, not less. It's enough for just one ship to destress and all of them get focus. That means it is virtually impossible to shut down a single ship with stress and nuke it down. Restrictions on the number of red maneuvers each turn do need to be considered however, which is why I prefer to take no more than a single ship that relies on red turnarounds in those lists. On the positive side, that ship does get his focus even when he k-turns.

The issue is that you usually take mindlink with ships not good enough for PTL, which means you are not good to get rid of the stress in the first place. Make it double or triple stress from those one of those nasty arcs and your mindlink lists has a problem. It is not as bad as with a triple stressed soontir, but it is still bad.

Now if you put mindlink instead on ships like fangs who are actually pretty good at getting rid of stress … k-turns and k-rolls with focus/focus/TL can be quite the powerful offensive power, and mindlink fangs are cheap enough to run 3 with manaroo together.
