Help with direct damage build

By GrandSpleen, in Strategy and deck-building

Hiya,

I'm working on a multiplayer direct damage build, maybe for use in th Siege of Annuminas Fellowship event coming up. Started with the idea of Imrahil bouncing Rumil in and out of play, so that's the core idea that I'd like to support. I ran a deck with that in the past, and it was pretty fun blasting enemies for 8 damage when you have a bunch of archers on the table.

From that idea I need ways to bounce Rumil in and out. Obviously I need Elf-friend on Imrahil to make his ability work with Rumil. Then I added the other Silvan events. Now I have a quasi-Silvan deck.

To manipulate Rumil for Imrahil's ability, I need either Wizard Pipe, which means Gandalf, or I need Gildor. I opted for Gildor, so now I have a need for Lore resources. Argalad was a natural fit in the direct damage type, then I wanted another Ranged hero to support Rumil's ability, so it was either Haldir or Faramir. This deck does not aim to engage enemies, so Haldir works well, and I chose him,

From there I filled out the deck with Ranged allies. Added Horn of Gondor because its errata version is still functional in multiplayer, and the deck might struggle with cash if I aim to trigger Imrahil's ability frequently. Added Song of Battle because the deck ended up being largely Tactics. Gondorian Shield on Imrahil (along with the Horn) because inevitably I'll have to engage something, in a 4-player game, and then I'm prepared for it. Silvan Tracker so I can absorb a bit of archery and support other Silvans on the table.

The deck would enjoy having Celeborn on the table, but doesn't really need it that much.

Any thoughts to tighten the build? Would love the help, Siege is a tough quest!

Deck built on RingsDB .

I'm confused: Rumil can only do his thing when played from hand, not when put into play through other means...

Oops! Man, that kills the whole idea. And I played a whole game abusing that ability a couple of months back. Too bad :(

Yeah, Rumil is disappointing. If you want to go DD, I think you need Thalin. Then I would go with Ranger Bows and the new 1 cost ranger allies.

An alternate strategy if you want to go all in with big burst direct damage effects is to build a deck with Hama abusing Skyward Volley. It's incredibly easy to dump your whole deck into your discard with a Longbeard Sentry. Then Hama picks a Volley back up and can keep using it every turn (provided you have an archer). You can take out 3 Wargs of Carn Dum with a single Volley. Rohan Warhorse + Dunedain Cache can help Hama perform double duty by range-attacking an enemy (so you don't need to engage), then acting as the archer for the Volley. But it might not be worth all the setup.

To be honest, although I love direct damage decks, I'm not sure if they're the right deck for Siege. How do you handle the Vanguard of Carn Dum and the Host of Angmar?

My thinking with the deck I tried to build was that those guys would be engaging other players. Direct damage could handle some of the other enemies coming out of the deck, and then I would have a ton of Ranged on the table to attack the immune enemies.
