TLT clarification

Hello

Would like some clarification on Twin Laser Turrets

The card reads

Each time the attack hits, the defender suffers one damage. Then cancel all dice results."

What does "attack hits" mean? The red dice have a hit or a critical hit not counting the roll of the green dice or the red dice roll a hit or criticial hit that the green roll cannot defend?

If the latter and red rolls three hits and green three blanks, does that mean that there is only one hit and the dice rolls are cancelled?

Sorry if this is an obvious questions.

See steps 6 and 7 of the Attack sequence, in the Rules Reference:

KUazjpa.png

An attack is a hit if there is at least 1 uncancelled hit or crit result.

If the attack hits, TLT's effect happens between steps 6 and 7 : the defender suffers 1 damage, and then all dice results are cancelled.

And since all dice results are cancelled before step 7, there is no damage dealt during step 7.

Sorry if this is an obvious questions.

It's a fairly common question and Klutz has the answer in his post.

Don't ever fill silly about asking an "obvious" question. An attack " hitting " is one of the most confusing concepts of the game for newer players. Some weapons use the dice as a basic mechanic to establish a " hit " or " not hit " status then assign certain results accordingly. The Twin Laser Turret is one of those weapons. Ion Cannons are another. The result of that successful "hit" is detailed on their card. Some may not cause damage, but will affect a target ship in different ways (like assigning an ion token). When it says to cancel all dice results, then you won't be using those dice results for damage purposes. If you hit with an attack with a Twin Laser Turret, you only do one damage per attack, but you do get two attacks with it each time you use it. And at Range 3, where the defender doesn't get a range bonus to his green defense dice, it can be quite nasty. Especially when you have more than one.

The exception to the above rule is Lt Blount, who's attacks always count as hitting, even if al the red dice are cancelled by green dice. This means he normally doesn't do damage, but for cards that read 'if this attack hits ...', the card will take effect.
