Your Hobby Value Thus Far

Yeah, like i said thats kinda the reason why i dont get why im so stoked for it.

I have a USB NES controller i bought eons ago. Aside from being unusually light it feels the same as the original to me. Buttons have a slightly harder edge to them but big deal.

Youre right in that its super easy to just do a raspberry pi emulator. Even someone without electronics/computer skills can do it. Yet i still want this NES classic rofl

Same for me, but I know exactly why: Legal roms and just works. Building a little pi emulator is time I could spend on playing x-wing. ;-)

Technically roms are 100% legal if you own the game already. Thats how none of the sites like doperoms have been shut down for distributing licensed software: they have it all over the place saying "If you do not own this game it is illegal for you to play it on an emulator" course like that stops anyone.

Only reason i still dont have my mountain of NES games is because i broke the reader on my NES and this was before i knew how to solder, so i THOUGHT it was an unfixable problem....derp lol. Ive honestly thought about trying to do the whole collector's thing where i aim for box + manuals of all the key games. My brother does that...wow some of those games are expensive lol. He spent like 70USD on Faxanadu with the box + manual rofl. Now that i have college education in electronics i feel like nothing that goes wrong on the NES outside the chips themselves i wouldnt be able to fix. Obviously if a chip fried im hosed lol.
