"I can't shake him." EPT idea

By MenaceNsobriety, in X-Wing

Rebel only. Small ship only.

After a ship you have locked in range 1-2 performs an action or is assigned a token you may perform the same action or be assigned the same type of token.

2 points.

Rebels get their first faction restricted EPT that helps with arc dodgers and more action efficient ships. Encourages target locks which is something that the designers seem to like with Rebels. Thought about putting in arc at range 1-2 but I like the TL better as it restricts it to one ship. I know it's probably to cheap but hey most rebel ships are over costed anyway.

You misspelled Imperial Only.

Imperial small ships don't need much help... Other than the Punisher but that is best forgotten.

But I like that mechanic and have wondered why FFG hasn't put out a similar effect yet. Call it Stalk, 2 point EPT. Seems pretty straightforward - tail, closely. Hit closer.

On high PS Aces this becomes a tool to hunt.

It would be a cool condition card:

"I Have You Now"

After you acquire a target, assign the locked ship the "I Can't Shake Him" condition card.

Thematically, of course.

I thought of the card first and was struggling for a fitting title. I think anything that helps ships keep other ships in arc is a net positive. More attacks equals faster more exciting games.

I like this card and would vote for it if FFG was a democracy. Heck I'd probably vote for this card over two other Presidential Candidates that shall remain unnamed on Nov 8th.

I Like this, but I think the target should both be locked and in firing arc for it to trigger. Also, you'd need to be careful about ships getting unusual or upgrade card actions that don;t make sense (that wording would let a ship with a locked Phantom cloak when the Phantom cloaks, or SLAM when a K-wing SLAMs.

So, I'd reword as follows:

When an Enemy ship you have locked and in your firing arc performs a boost or barrel roll action, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action. if you perform an action not listed on your action bar, receive a stress token after performing the action.

Keeps it simpler and less likely to throw up nasty combos while still being useful.

Performing actions not listed on the ships action bar was kind of the point of the card. I don't really see a problem with that. Ships are granted actions and tokens they normally don't have access to all the time.

Cloak Tokens and Slam actions require mechanical components that are not physically equipped to the ship. Thematically this does not make any sense.

When you acquire a target lock on an enemy ship, you may assign that ship the " I Can't Shake Him " condition token.

Once during the activation phase, when the ship with the "I Can't Shake Him" condition token is inside your firing arc and at range 1-2, after that ships performs a boost or barrel roll action you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action.

When the target lock is removed, remove the "I Can't Shake Him" condition token from the enemy ship.

This card would be best on low ps aces, giving them a way to follow high ps arc dodgers.

I doubt it would make it on any high ps ship, as it would only take effect when the enemy ship performs its action.

I love the idea though!

Good point.

Another thing to consider: Is it worth using your only opportunity to boost/barrel roll for the round before you've moved and in reaction to one ship (without knowing where other ships are going)?

"i cant shake him" sounds like a call to a wingman for help not a way to buff yourself.

"I have you now!" would be better for this idea, since you are basically preventing that ship from getting away.

"i cant shake him" seems like it would be another one of those 3 conditions = insane benefit cards. I.e., enemy ship has a friendly ship in his arc and out of their arc (Outmaneuver procs here) and another friendly ship has arc on the enemy ship and outside arc of the original friendly ship (i.e. behind him), so he adds dice to his attack.

Which i really wouldnt want in this game lol. Even if its like a 4pt EPT and adds 2 attack dice, the odds of that going off are slim.

See: A Score to Settle and A Debt to Pay .

Some conditions appear to be dual-titled to represent which side of the condition they are on. Makes pretty clear sense to me.

IMHO this is the best iteration of this concept thus far. Wording and cost may need adjusted but I think you're on to something... Now go win Worlds and design this for us.

Might want to add "..even if that ship left your firing arc after performing the action." otherwise people would just go "But im not in your arc now"
