There are some players in my area, mainly grow up 40+ years old kids who are returning to the most simple ways to play X Wing. The so called "Basic" mode. If you play Basic forget about Manaroo - Palpashuttle - Streshogs etc. Many OTS ships plus some Expanded Universe single ships.
3 X wings plus one Ion armed Y wing, 4 Tie Fighters plus 2 Advanced, etc. There are no written rules about this, simply an informal way to play x wing. Quite often with some child or non habitual players who buy on a regular basis Star Wars stuff but are outside player's circles. Relaxing game mode with no "advanced" updates or combos.
There are so many combos and timing interactions that sometimes it is refreshing to simply come back to basics. I move, you move, you shoot and I shoot. Simply try to outmaneuver your opponent and forget about Ubootes, Large multicrew ships and the like.
At first I was not very happy about this, but after a 4 month pause playing now I see only two kind of players outside my closed circle
- Dedicated players who play competitive tier lists
- Middle agers players who try to enjoy a relaxed game and are a little upset about the "what the xxx is this ship?". People who are no Rebels fans.
So you can choose... fight against a young player with triple Defenders or combo heavy Scum ships... Or against a overweight middle ager with a "lets play a little game with my son".
So sometimes it is hard to choose...
