Triple X List

By Battlesong, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, being newer to the game, I'm trying to make sure I have the nuances of list building down and I want to see what cards I may need should I ever move to something competitive. I threw this together because, surprisingly, I want to play X-Wings in a gme called X-Wing :). I already got some help with this and want to see if this is good and what I may be missing in putting the list together:

PS8 Poe
-PTL
R2-D2
-Integrated Astromech

"Red Ace
-R3 Astromech
-Integrated Astromech
-Comm Relay

Biggs Darklighter
-R4-D6
-Integrated Astromech

I like most all Triple X lists but I'm also a newb. I think most would prefer R2D2 on R. Ace and R5P9 on Poe if you have it. If not, I would use BB8 Poe instead. Especially with PtL. IA vs. Autothrusters is a toss up for me. I will let others more experienced tackle that.

PS: If you like T-70s then Heroes of the Resistance is a must in my book. Good Luck.

Interesting thought on R2-D2. I'll look into R5-P9 as I've seen that suggestion before. I just bought the original Falcon 2 weeks ago; I'm not sure I can justify buying a new one so soon, especially when there are so many other ships I want to get my hands on

Well...if you get a second Falcon, you can fly two of them. I'm not sure if that is a good enough reason or not. Primed Thrusters, Pattern Analyzer, and The Black One title are all amazing for T-70s. The new pilots are all pretty great too, and you get two (?) more copies of Integrated Astromech.

Your list looks pretty good, but as suggested BB-8 on Poe and R2-D2 on Red Ace would probably be even better. Are you familiar with the BB-8 + PTL shenanigans?

Biggs is ok, but with the recent FAQ that hit him pretty hard, you might be better off with just about any other X-Wing you can fit in there. Tarn Mison + R7 Astromech + IA = 25 points, and he's great in the end game.

Edit: I just remembered that the first list I took to a tournament was:

Poe + R5-P9 + Predator + Autothrusters

Red Ace + R2-D2 + Comm Relay + IA

Tarn Mison + R7 + IA

....Rebel scum....

:)

EDIT: Oh, and if you wanted, you can PtL off your regular action too, allowing for up to 4 actions per turn.

In case you aren't, here's how it works. Poe reveals a green maneuver, procs BB-8, after barrel roll action, PTL procs, allowing another action and receiving stress token. Poe completes green maneuver, clears stress, takes another action. Essentially allows 3 actions per turn with no stress.

Nope Once Per Round for PTL

OP, are you set on the T-70 with Poe?

Nope Once Per Round for PTL

True. Overlooked that (probably purposely). But still, 3 actions in a turn with no stress is a bit ridiculous.

On an ATT 3 platform with no special modifiers, its less than daunting to have 3 actions when one of the has to be barrel roll. PS 9 aces (which are enormously popular and always will be), can run rings around you for all time, slowly wearing you down. Poe's most popular builds involve Veteran Instincts, R2-D2 and autothrusters to make him a relatively low-cost anti-ace tool with good staying power against swarms.

The R3 astromech is a bit superfluous on Red Ace, especially considering his ability is already there. I'd advise swapping it out for R5-P9 to let him regenerate shields as well as protect them, at the same price.

Not necessarily. In looking at the pilots, though, he really seemed to be the strongest available so I figured to build around him. What do you have in mind?

Interesting, I simply thought that Integrated Astromech was pretty much an auto-include on X-Wings that I hadn't considered any other modification, but I can see the uses behind the VI/AT combination.

Good advice on R5-P9, thanks!

Nope, definitely was not aware of that ridiculousness, thanks!

A XXX list I'm thinking of is:

Biggs

R4-D6

Integrated Astromech

Wes Janson

R3-A2

VI

Integrated Astromech

Poe PS9

BB8

Push the Limit

Primed Thrusters

Autothrusters

Poe can use BB8 even when stressed to shake off TLs from his wingmen, and then Wes shoots at PS10 to remove tokens.

All this helps to keep Biggs alive longer while Poe and Wes take out the opposition.

PS8 Poe

-PTL

R2-D2

-Integrated Astromech

"Red Ace

-R3 Astromech

-Integrated Astromech

-Comm Relay

Biggs Darklighter

-R4-D6

-Integrated Astromech

Would definitely put R2-D2 on Red Ace. R2-D2, Comm Relay, Integrated Astromech and Red Ace's own ability make for a horrendously tough small ship. If you can avoid being ganged up on by multiple opponents at once, he's nigh impossible to hurt.

Get hit. Lose shield. Gain evade.

Next turn. Green move. Regain shield. Now you have the shield and an evade token.

and so on.

Poe, equally, pairs BB-8 and PTL well - because he can (as noted) use the free barrel roll to rack up extra actions without stress.

Biggs is nice. R4-D6 needs the Rebel Transport - which comes with R5-P9; which is a pretty good alternate option for Poe Dameron.
