Tournament list decision help

By Managarmr, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I play with mostly with my family, proxying freely away, not caring about buying the really expensive stuff, or buying ships I dislike just for the cards contained. The local scene is also rather small, as sparcely populated area, and I have too many family and jobb contraints time- and moneywise. I am also not keen on playing with or against all the stupid Pwt-pancakes or mixed timelines.

Now on a very short notice a regional was announced in nearest town, and suddenly I find me wondering about participating - silly me. With regard to my not-that-much-experience I will probably be utterly crushed anyways (all the defender and Palp pros), but I would rather really avoid the imperial 1-error-kills-you lists (I am too prone to not-that-smart-flying-mistakes).

I lean also towards playing some more fringe-build, where players not right from the beginning know how to destroy it as they encountered it all the time. Not sure though if supply builds in the current meta not just get Fenn-Rau'ed...

Regional excludes proxies.

I have a more flavour and HotAc determined collection, also liking painting - thus not very tournament optimised.

(201222001121110001000100120200510000001010200000000 in Fab's)

2 old Core

1 X, 2 Y, 1 A, 1 B, Rebel Aces, 2 Hwk -painting! :) -, 1 Z95, 1 K-wing, 2 Arc

2 TIE l/n, 2 TIE Adv, 1 Interceptor, 1 Bomber, 1 Lambda, Imperial Veterans

Starviper, 2 M3A, 5 Kihraxz - they were on special offer, and as said I like painting! :) -, 1 G1A, 2 Most Wanted -painting! :) -

My only LGS is very expensive, and I mostly buy in FNLGS (friendly non-local-gamestores :), travelling a lot job-wise, thus buying from the small-brick&mortars from other towns), the latter I do not manage before the regioonal timewise. I will thus buy at most 1 large OR 2 small expension(s) more. I was already independently of the regional wondering about Rebel Transport, Heroes of the Resistance. Now maybe 1 Protecorate or Inquisitor. The Flying Toilet or the Startreck-ship have nice upgrades (Dengar crew!), and the Uboat is still quite copmpetitive, but I'm not that inclined towards buying them, just disliking the ships.

Right now tastewise mostly interested in Arc or G1A+K/M3A.

Fringe builds:

2 Arc build (probably new enough that folks might struggle) Problem: I do not have the stressbot. Not really interested in flying Biggs.

3 Kihraxz, 2 M3A (Ion, Mangler (good against Empire) or HLC)

2 Khiraxz, 2 M3A Problem: no mindlink, not experienced with mindlink.

Torkil, 4Lom, Aces for trolling. Problem: no mindlink, not experienced with mindlink.

Baffelo-Jendon-Lambda with title and homer bombers. Problem: No GCs, only 1 EM, and too expensive/non-competitive.

Any suggestions?

I assume you have 6 TIE l/n since you stated 2 core and 2 tie l/n

I don't play Scum but looking at your list, a Rebel with Arcs and/or a K-wing list looks like a promising start.

40 Norra Wexley (29), Push the Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Tail Gunner (2), Alliance Overhaul (0), Vectored Thrusters (2)

45 Miranda Doni (29), TLT (6), Long Ranged Scanners (0), Homing Missiles (5), Extra munitions (2), Recon Specialist (3)

25 Biggs (25)

I know you said "No Biggs" but I really think he is worth running in this list as you have 2 heavy hitters with Regen but low agility and Biggs will go a long way towards keeping them alive. Miranda can threaten Aces on the opening turn with a 5-dice, fully modified Homing Missile (Defenders and Soontir will hate that). LRS makes up for your lack of Guidance Chips. After that she can switch to TLT and keep her shields recharged whilst whittling down lower agility targets. Norra is you "Ace" (or close enough) as she has great action economy, 2 fire arcs and the ability to force through extra damage. R2-D2 maximises your use of Greens and keeps her alive. Biggs eats fire for a few turns to keep the Regen Girls alive and hopefully throws out a few shots of his own.

This list has the advantage that I think you will not need any extra purchases.

This list has the advantage that with the 110 points you will have an easier time beating all those measly 100-point lists :P

What you can do (and what I have chosen to do in preference to running Biggs myself) is play a prototype pilot a-wing with a chardaan refit instead of Biggs in the list Karhedron posted.

That switch will make the squad a little more skill intensive as you'll need to make active use of that a-wing to block off places you don't want the enemy to go... But it can be done.

The advantage of going with the a-wing is: a) You're not flying Biggs, and b) you get to keep all those nice toys with the ten points that you would otherwise lose getting Biggs into that list.

My Arc/K/A list is very slightly different to that one, but to be brutally honest, that one might suit a little better than mine (might switch my list over to homing missiles too).

D'oh! :o

I thought it looked a bit too good. Oh well, the OP said he didn't want Biggs so run a cheap A-wing Prototype Pilot with Chaardan Refit for 15 points to use a blocker and then it all works out!
