ARC-Stresshog and Vrill and.....

By Gnumpf, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My first post and an old idea.... :-)

I've played once the Barylen stresshog and liked it quite a bit. Now I'm trying to build a list around him and came up with this:

--> ARC170-Barylen Stramm (25): R3-A2 (2), Gunner (5), title (0)

--> YT-2400-Eaden Vrill (32)

--> ARC170-Norra Wexley (25): PtL (3), BB-8 (2), Tactician (2), Title (0)

The tactic is quite obvious: Focus down one opponent, stress it and destroy it. For the job I like Vrills ability to roll a 3 dice turret again stressed ships. If the stresshog goes down there is still Norras Tactitian on board to deal stress - not to mention all the aces equiped with PtL which stresses themselves....

I'm just concerned about the fact that the ARCs are quite fragile...

To add some more staying power I could swap Norra for a Lothal Rebel:

--> VCX-100 Lothal Rebel (35), Chopper (0), Hera Syndulla (1)

Could also pair it with a better end-game Poe:

--> T-70 X-Wing Poe Dameron (31), Adaptability Inc (0), R5-P9 (3), AT (2)

So what do you think? Could it be a competetive list? Which is the more complete variation? Do you have other pilots in mind? Or do you think I should stand with it not next to the table but hide underneath? :-) :-)

Thanks for your replies!!

Braylen is certainly a monster, and Eaden is a good wingman to benefit from him. Norra, Poe and the VCX all need more points spent on them to really shine, though, so I think perhaps they arn't the best fit in this list.

How about this:

Braylen Stramm (ARC-170)

-'Alliance Overhaul'

-R3-A2

-Gunner

32pts

Eaden Vrill (YT-2400)

-Smuggling Compartment

-Rigged Cargo Chute

33pts

Tycho Celchu (A-Wing)

-'A-Wing Test Pilot'

-Push the Limit

-Rage

-Proton Rockets

-Autothrusters

35pts

100pts

Raging Tycho with Proton Rockets is quite a scary prospect that your opponent can't really ignore, which makes targeting priority more difficult for them, and as an A-Wing he can be tricky to hit. He's vulnerable to BMST, but between Braylen and blocking with Eaden you should be able to shut down the actions of any ship equipped with it that gets too close to him. Certainly it's unlikely that he'll die before firing his rockets - and you can always have near-full modification on that shot with Rage, while still having another action available.

Jake with the same setup (with Veteran Instincts instead of Rage) is an option too, but there are a fair few stress-givers (like Braylen, or Asajj) in the game right now and Jake is completely shut down by them, so I prefer Tycho for his immunity to those.

Vrill is one of my favorites. Versus stressed opponents he is one the most efficient ships in the game. The rigged cargo chute idea from Malus above is great for 1pt.

Don't ever fly a crew slot empty when Chopper is still available :) Also, If you drop gunner down to tactician on Braylen, it gives you more points to play with while still having a double stress possibility.

With 39pts, you can get two more ships for a 4 ship list, or one ace.

Norra + R2D2 + PTL + Tail Gunner + Title = 38pts
(enough for that cargo chute on Vrill)

Poe(PS8) + r5P9 + AT + Pattern Analyzers + Adapt = 39pts
(PS9 Poe that can T-roll and get focus)

Thane + Title
Bandit
=38pts
(adds two ships and 1pt for cargo chute, Thane is full modded shots unless they attack him first, making him your Biggs. Plus two Arcs on the table looks badass)

If you want to leave Gunner Braylen, then 36pts can still get you a TLT Y-Wing and a Bandit.

Gold Y-wing + TLT
Bandit
=36pts

So...
Braylen Stramm (29)
ARC-170 (25), R3-A2 (2), Gunner (5), Alliance Overhaul (0)
Eaden Vrill (32)
YT-2400 Freighter (32), "Chopper" (0)
Gold Squadron Pilot (24)
Y-Wing (18), Twin Laser Turret (6)
Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
