The Perils of Hot Shot Co-pilot.

By SamTheJ, in X-Wing

So I've been at maybe 1 tournament since regionals, so i decide to go to a little one on Sunday. I've been flying Imperial but lately I've been doing some Rebel stuff again. I settled on a Kaanan Super Dash and a BB-8 Ptl PS8 Poe Dameron.

My first match up was against Sootir Fel (Bad for Dash, Okay for Poe) and RAC with Hot shot Co-pilot, Rebel Captive, VI, and Gunner.

This went badly.

RAC shoots first, using HSCP to make me spend my token, causing him to miss, Gunner kicks in and I'm Tokenless. Then when I shoot him my PTL carriers with no more focus get stressed by Rebel captive. At least Poe can deal with it if he did his BB-8 shenanigans, but he can't do it again after shooting RAC. I did manage to Kill RAC and wound Fel before I finally was killed off.

It was a really good match, but it was one heck of an uphill battle.

Any thoughts on strategies? Was I right to focus on RAC or should I have tried to barrel in on Fel?

you were right to focus on the more easily focused RAC, who would've done his thing whether or not you focused him because the PWT is a dumb mechanic

but **** that's just such a straight kick-in-the-balls hard counter to your build that "uphill battle" is really the best you could have expected

Indeed. That was a pretty bad matchup.

Hotshot Copilot turning anyone with a crew-slot into Wes Janson is annoying for most opponents, but for Poe Dameron it's heartbreaking.

Taking out Chireaneau is indeed the right answer. Ultimately, in this matchup, you have to accept that Chiraneau can strip tokens off you with ease, so a focus token is meaningless. You might as well stick with the target lock and take the unsubtle head-on approach (he hasn't got Engine Upgrade, after all, so isn't going to be dodging too much).

Yeah, I don't see any mistakes in terms of your targeting. RAC has to be brought down first, and quickly. Neither one of your ships wants to face Soontir in the end game though... So it just seems like you're bringing paper against scissors here.

Your list isn't bad, but this matchup is. The only hope you have is Dash vs. Soontir at the end and getting lucky with a couple HLC shots, and hopefully blocking Soonts, and going to time. You will win on points then, but Soontir is going to be doing everything he can to get in Dash's hole

I totally forgot about this card and had to look it up. Man, how could I forget that?

Ugh...I don't want to have to buy a HotR just for all these cool upgrades. I don't need another Falcon.
