Game recommendations for kids?

Junior Catan works quite differently and is a bit pirate themed.

Just took a look at it t the Catan website, looks quite nice if it still exists in 4 years I wil gift it to my nephew.

Settlers of Catan. The 7 year old i used to babysit could handle it.

wait nevermind, just saw the stuff above

Ooh, looking at http://www.dicetower.com/top-tens-results/young-childrens-games

Mice and Mystics might be something, though it might be geared a bit more towards the older ones?

I saw this game at Essen this year:

Looks gorgeous, is cooperative and memory based. Set out a path of a bunch of cards, face down, as a group flip over the cards one by one, memorize what you need to beat that card, flip it back down. Then roll 4(?) dice, pick two equipment from the result and fill up your backpack and go on your way as a team.

Easy to teach, easy to play without supervision, looks great.

Thanks Dagonet - I really like the sound of Mysterious Forest, I'll have to keep an eye out for when it comes out! (next week I see...)

Coop and memory should both go over well with younger kids.

All this talk about boardgames reminds me, I need more shelves to store everything, we're doubling up as is and there's more incoming this christmas. :D

Ha! Yes I recently went through a big IKEA based reorganisation of my games collection and by magic I now have a lot of room for more games....

Yeah, we'll have that luxury as well, for all of about two minutes I fear. :D .

Scythe, Cry Havoc, next year Rising Sun and a bunch more stuff are already on the to buy list.

could also try Galaxy Trucker, good fun game

I think the kids might be a bit too young for that, though the system would lend itself wonderfully for a kids' game, I agree. It's just a bit too unforgiving and hectic I think?

I was thinking the same thing about it being a little overwhelming for younger kids; however, on reflection I think they could have a lot of fun just doing the ship building stage.

I'm trying to think of the kind of games my 7-year old likes. Trouble is, we usually play games that the 5-year-old can play too, so our 7-year-old doesn't usually get to play games at her level.

Right now, though, if you asked her to pick any game of her choice, she would probably choose Pokemon TCG. I don't know what it is, but she got hooked on that recently. Obviously theme is a big deal there, so no guarantees it will work for other girls.

Other games she likes are Loot (a card game by Reiner Knizia) and Blokus.
