GW gaining controlling interest in FFG?

By flyboymb, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Happy Halloween everybody! Don't take any candy from any strange daemonettes tonight!

Didn't FFG just lose all the IP access to GW? No more conquest and no more forbidden stars (unfortunately).

Probably, I can't imagine GW letting a little thing like consumer satisfaction get in the way of profits.

Well its more a case of Asmodees relationship with GW isnt it? I mean to all extents and purposes Asmodee pretty much gutted FFG from what i've been told by gaming industry friends. I wouldnt be surprised if you gradually see the FFG logo get smaller and smaller on stuff.

GW now has a dedicated 'specialist games' wing again so rather than outsource other game concepts in their IP they are more likely to do them in house now i'd have thougth

I would. That would be a terribad marketing move with the brand recognition and general good standing FFG has achieved in recent years with their LCGs, X-Wing and more recent board games. If you see an FFG product you know that support for the game is decent, the rules are well written (at least nowadays, that used to be their weakness) and the art is top-notch. Thats what the little FFG-logo promises us and it would be an awefull mistake to deconstruct this powerful brand.

You can still find the Days of Wonders logo on boardgames and Days of Wonders also belongs to Asmodee so i don't think the will phase out the FFG logo and if you go on their site you will see all kinds of logos on their games, although i don't know if they also publish games for companies that they don't own.

You need to make it somewhat realistical, the shark does not get eaten by the trout.

" the rules are well written"

Now that made me chuckle.

Maybe in a few years GW can tank and Asmodee can buy them out.

Maybe but I have read that GW is going down so often in forums and they are still here and I think they will still be here tomorrow.

They are relasing Blood Bowl again, even at a somewhat reasonable price (which I really didn't expect). They are getting my money on that!

If they want they can do already. They just don't seem to be interested into companies with negative growth rates.

I'm thinking about getting it too but what i don't like is that the rules for Star Players other teams and League Play are not in the core rulebook, you need to buy the Deathzone expansion for that.

Thats a bit annoying. Is there a price on that, yet?

It will cost 25$, i just don't like that you have to pay extra for something that was included in the last editions rulebook if i'm not mistaken.

It was included in the living rulebook, but I don't think it was in any base game version. Could be wrong, though, never owned one of those. It is a bit annoying, but I can do 25$.

Right now i only found my Dungeon Bowl Compendium not my BB rulebook but the Dungeon Bowl Compendium does not contain legue rules and has rules for new teams and starplayers that were released in (if not more) the White Dwarf and as i only had the rulebook and this compendium i'm now pretty sure the core rulebook came with league rules and rules for human, orc, skaven, elf and chaos teams and some starplayer rules.

I hope the new edition has the humour of the old one.

They did insist that they kept most things. In fact the rule book is suposed to be pretty much what has been in use for a long time now, which makes sense considering the Blood Bowl video games use it, too and it would be smart to offer those players a familiar experience.

My best mate Andy is responsible for new Blood Bowl. He's very 'old school' and will want to keep people happy by keeping it in the same spirit and tone.

I mean we've been running an 80s GW gaming blog for years together now.

They've agonised a lot over blood bowl. I know Andy has had player/league/tourny organiser contribution/opinion from the start.

I hope we get a chaos team soon ! Human/ork, dwarf and skaven aren't enough at launch. And an undead team . I always liked that they didn't gain nigling injuries because they basically get resurrected from scratch for each game. ;)

I might get into this one then.

While this page only introduces Skaven, Orcs and Humans the banner on top shows Dwarves, Wood Elves, Lizardpeople, Chaos and maybe Underworld, can't really make sense of the small Troll to the very right.

That would be a fine early, maybe starting lineup. My LGS starts a league in January to celebrate the relaunch and hype up the game (worked!), that would definitly benefit from more than 4 teams. I just hope it won't be as much of a dwarffest! I'll be playing Orcs so I don't have to spend as much.

GW have relaunched 'specialist games' as a branch of FW. Its not a huge team though. Its basically Andy as dept manager, a spec games writer, an artists and a sculptor at the moment (Mark Bedford iirc). So its not like they have a whole group studio behind it like they did in the past.

Bear in mind that team also have to do new necromunda, new epic and the rest.. we'll you might see less 'expansive' first release ranges.

I can't really say much more.. mainly because i'm not that interested in Blood Bowl so we never chat about it and the stuff i am interested in is too far down the pipe line to talk about and i'd be a git to my mate to leak stuff.

Bb kept going for a decade without GW I don't think it'll be as big as they hope too many 3rd parties making great teams for cheaper than anything forge world will release.

@Admiral Deathrain

The small troll is a goblin they can be part of an orc team or form their own team.

@Hobojebus

You right and one more thing BB's rules are quit old modern sports games tend to have slightly better rules in my opinion, the tunrover rule can be really annyoing in my opinion.
